I was expecting a loss yesterday and am saddened by it. The Lions didn't play particularly well and the Zags came ready to play. Still, the Lions showed no quit when they cut the lead to six in the last half of the second half. They just blew their load getting back into it and ran out of gas at the end.

Still, have to be proud of this team. Tremendous turnaround in just one season. I suspect it's going to be one of the top couple of turnarounds nationally. And with such a young team. The future looks good for the Lions.

Any postseason is good at this point. Let the kids feel some reward for the season they had. Sure, they're disappointed, but they've come a long way. Post season experience can only help this team. Let the kids whet their appetite with some postseason games - it'll make them work that much harder over the summer and hit the ground running when the fall practices start.

Congrats to the Lions. 8-)

I'd imagine. This year ESPN was no where to be found considering coaches had us picked for 8th. Next season I see us 3rd or even 2nd in most media/coaches polls in the WCC. Will be great exposure for our team *cough*AZIZ . ;)

the report says...

If Loyola Marymount receives a postseason berth, it would be its first since playing in the 2001 NIT.

That is WAAAY Off. I was still in school in 2001 and if they had made the NIT it would be etched in my brain. LMU was 9-19 that year ( http://www.lmulions.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/0001teamstat.html ) and definitely not in the NIT field ( http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketba/skm/2001-nit-glance.htm ).

LMU's only postseason NIT appearance came in 1986 http://www.nit.org/history/nit-postseason-all-time-participants.html

I checked the website and it looks like our last post-season was the Elite Eight in 1990. I guess the other 18 win LMU team of 1995-96 (18-11) did not go to the NIT and there was no CBI or CIT back then.

That's really special that after 2 long decades... we are BACK (well sort of) ;).

I wouldn't say we're back, but the CBI or CIT offers a good opportunity for our players to keep developing with additional practice time and competitive games. It will only help for next year.

That's good news. Did they tell you whether it was the CBI or the CIT?

It will be CIT and a 95% chance it will be hosted by LMU in Gersten on Wednesday, March 17. As previously mentioned, opponent and other teams in the 16 team tournament (four per region) will be announced Sunday.

Tickets will be $25 to get your usual season ticket seat and $5 for students. This isn't a way for athletics to make money - it will help meet the guarantee we had to make in order to get the home game.
