No not that one, but PG Anthony Ireland. I found this dandy article on him... He average 29ppg his senior year one game he scored 46 points. ;D www.recruitrecon.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5554&Itemid=1By Brian Crownover Anthony Ireland built a reputation as a top notch point guard with his play during his career at Crosby High School in Connecticut. He was regarded as one of the best lead guards in the state and is known for making clutch plays. He landed on the All State Team this past season. It was on the AAU circuit that we first caught wind of Anthony though. Time and time again this spring and summer, Anthony could be found doing a fine job of running the New England Playaz offense. The speedy point guard is very capable of attacking in either direction off the dribble. He proved to be an unselfish player who often found his teammates after driving. Anthony showed himself to be a capable finisher around the rim too. He can even step outside and hit the occasional jumper as well. Recruit Recon recently caught up with Anthony to discuss his recruitment. Thus far, he tells us he is hearing from VCU, Duquesne, Rutgers, La Salle, St. Bonaventure, Loyola Marymount and St. John's. He has already taken a visit to Loyola Marymount and plans to schedule others shortly. When asked for his favorites, Anthony named Loyola Marymount, Rutgers, Dusquesne and St. Bonaventure. This coming season, he'll be taking his game to Winchendon. If his summer play is any indication, look for him to have a fine season in the New England prep school ranks. That should continue into his college days as well. Last Updated ( Wednesday, 26 August 2009 ) More stories, video, stats, images on my blog lmubasketball.blogspot.com/Go Lions!

Thanks ironlions - good find.
From ESPN Anthony Ireland, 5'10", Rating 81
Evaluation from Class of 2009:
April, 2009: When he focuses on involving his teammates, he does a very good job of locating them for shots. He has the ability and the quickness to break down defenders and get into the teeth of the defense. Once at the rim, Ireland has more than enough strength to finish at the rim. As he cuts down on his turnovers and tries not to do as much, he could develop into a very nice point guard. Though small, Ireland has good leaping ability to go along with his long arms and big hands for his height. He will connect on jumpers from the perimeter and Ireland has good lift and a nice, high release on his jumper. He must continue to improve his shot selection and do a better job of understanding when a point guard should involve others. He also needs to continue to enhance his ballhandling skills.

A quick note, that ESPN evaluation was in April before the great summer A.I. had, would be interesting to see an updated one.
How about this:
Player of the Week – Anthony Ireland, Crosby High School The unsigned senior went for a career high 46 points last Friday night as Crosby scored 108 points and held Ansonia to 83. Ireland connected on 5 three-pointers, made all five of his free-throws, and showed a variety of moves from both the mid-range area and converting around the rim. Then five days later Ireland poured in another 37 points as Crosby scored a big win over Sacred Heart High school.

Some video - here they claim he is 6'1" ;D You may want to turn down the volume on your computer. Makes lay ups better than Marco Deric - but how about that 3 pointer?

Nice work on using the icons lmubbfan.
We do need a big, and Aziz is the top priority, however I can see why we are going after AI. We don't have true PG. JD is a excellent at running the team and a great leader but I think he is more of a 2 guard. Having a fast guard that can attack a defense, and change the pace of the game is important. Look at TJ Campbell and Patty Mills both short guards that excel in the WCC. One of the best Lions players in the last 10 years was Haywood Eddy who was only 5'4.
A big man is a MUST, but I can see why we are recruiting Ireland.

Was going to say the same thing ironlions. This team needs a true point guard for the future. One who looks to distibute to the various scorer that the team wil have. No offense to JD, as i am a big fan, but he is a score first pg. This team needs big bodies and low post scorers but also needs a good distributor to set up the fantastic athletes they have/will have. That was the problem with the Zags last year. Pargo was a goodplayer, but his true pg distributing skills were not there.
However, after looking at that short video clip I am not impressed. While highlight videos are not the best indication of a players abilities, the player usually will look better than he actually is. And to me, imo, Ireland doesnt look that appealing

zagsfan - based on what I have seen so far, I am not that impressed either but ironlions noted that AI really picked up his game this summer. We'll have to wait to see how well he fares in the 09-10 season to really judge his skills. 5'10" though? I like bigger guards.

Ya the heightscares me a little, but there have been little guards that have done amazing things in the past. Demetri Goodson isn't too big either.

New evaluation from ESPN must have just came out.
September, 2009: Ireland is tough as nails with ideal composure and temperament for a point guard. However, he played in an attacking transition system in previous years that allowed him to thrive as a scoring guard and is just beginning to learn the nuances of how to run a team. He's done a nice job recently of reducing his turnovers and improving his shot selection, and will only continue to improve with more experience. He's slightly undersized and plays primarily under the rim, but has fairly long arms and a strong core. He has a throw back mid-range game with a lethal pull-up and is also adept at getting to the rim and finishing. He's a capable three-point threat when his feet are set and a sufficient containment defender.

A.I. is one of the top true point guards in the nation. He is fast and strong but most importantly he is smart, with excellent vision. He took his team in the summer league to the finals in a 300 team tournament. The You Tube clip is over 1 1/2 years old taken when he was a junior in High school and doesn't represent a shadow of the player he is today. The prep school he goes to has about 11 D-1 players, and he is the starting point guard. The only reason we have a great shot at him at all is because he is undersized. But the kid can bounce the ball off the floor and do a tomahawk slam dunk easily.
Coach is real high on the kid. We are getting quality Bigs now...but we need a field leader to make sure ball gets to the guns..and A.I. can do it. Or he'll make the D pay. If coach is high on this guy...I'm really high on this guy.
