Thanks for starting a new thread on this topic. I will have to think about my estimate and get back to you but offhand I think we (the men's squad) will do a lot better than 11-19.

I for one agree with Lions4life. i will be EXTREMELY happy with a .500 finish but a 11-19 season is more likely. Keep in mind there are NO seniors on this team, where will the leadership come from in tight games with under 2 minutes to play? The only player I've seen that can truly create for himself late in a game is Vernon but in a foul situation he shoots like a Center. I shoot free throws better than him.
Who will be our late game clutch player/leader? I hope that someone steps up into that role this year, but if no one takes that leadership role consistently we can easily be 11-19 or something close to that.

Hey Lion4Life,
Didn't the women win 18 games last year? If so, do you think they will be worse this year? I certainly hope not, and here are my predictions.
MEN 20-10
I think the men's team will do very well this year with everyone coming back from either injuries or red-shirting. We definitely have depth in each position, so I feel the men will go far this year. I watched a couple of games in the SAY NO Tournament and noticed a big improvement in a couple of players, particularly Laron.
WOMEN 23-7
I know I'm being overly optimistic here, but I think with all the talent the women have we should do great things. We loss only one player in Cassidy, she will definitely be missed with her ball handling skills, and we don't have a senior point guard, so it will be interesting to see who fills that spot. I also think the freshman (Buckley) will help the team a lot, from what I hear she can jump out of the building. Rebounds... Rebounds... Rebounds...
GOOOOOO LIONS!!!!

My prediction for the men's bball team is not quite 20-10 but I do feel they will be much better than last year. With all the new players and lack of chemistry on this team I think it will take a few games for them to gel and find a permanent starting lineup and rotation.
I think we could do really well but I wouldn't want to say we are going to be all of a sudden the best team in the league after only winning 3 games last year. I would be very happy with a 16-14 season which I think is within reach. If we do get off to a fast start maybe 20-10 wouldn't be a stretch but I guess we will see how quickly the team can gel. Most of these guys aside from KY, Dubois and Laron have not had a ton of real game experience in D-1. Tim has experience but these three guys played a lot of minutes together last year so hopefully we can find some good team chemistry early and get off to a good start.
Go Lions!!!

Two months ago, I predicted 8-8 for the non-league games, and I will stand by that. For WCC games, every road game is extremely difficult. If we can win two road games, and it is probably realistic that we could go 5-2 at home, then 7-7 for WCC is about right. That just leaves the conference tournament.
If we can go 15-15 entering the tourney and then win a WCC Tournament Game, that would be a major, major step for the program. I'll go with 16-16, and hopefully be wrong, and thus pleasantly surprised with a winning record.

Crazylion...only three more losses the rest of the season? Do you want to change your prediction yet?

With the quickness. When I gave my predictions it was based solely on the talent we have, and we do have the talent. I just had no idea what the girls were up against, and I don't mean their opponents. Surprisingly their opponent is within, who could have known. Our record, at this point, is unfreakinbelievable. So my new prediction is 17-13, maybe, and it's not because of the girls. What the hell is going on here, and why hasn't something been done about it?

If the players just aren't responding to Wilhoit that is a big problem. That is how Aggers got boosted.

Wilhoit has a 200-204 record at LMU and that is what you will get year after year. Maybe that is why a good post player will not come and play for us. It would be ok to take some big girls as projects and develope them but I don't see that happening. The bigs we recruit stay the same or have gotten worse in the past three years. Who is training our post players? Mel who starts at center is not even 6 foot, I love her to death and she plays hard but how many games can you win with a center that small in div 1 basketball. Most good High School teams have bigger centers! Couple that with the lack of effort and you have a so so season. With all our guards we should be pressing the entire game and making it difficult for the other team to set up the offence and controll the boards and paint.

lion4life- If Wilhoit was boosted who do you think our next coach should be?

I would like to see a male come in and coach the team. Nothing against a female coach, but it would be a nice change after 15 years. Off the top of my head Russ Davis has done a great job at Vanguard and would maybe like to step up. He has won tons of NAIA campionships and has strong recruiting ties with Cal Swish. I believe we would get a ton of applications if and when it gets to a change being made.

Lion4life you hit the nail on the head when you said we have enough guards to press. For the life of me I don't know why we don't press and press and press. If I were a coach and the opposing team was pressing me, I would press them back so hard they wouldn't know what hit them. But we let teams press us and take us out of our game and comfort zone, while we sit back in a sissy zone, are you kidding me!
Coach was quoted as saying she doesn't want her team playing street ball, well this is exactly who's beating us, teams that are playing street ball. What was that UC Irvine put on us? A game we clearly should not have lost.
I think Russ would be a good hire also, he has done wonders at Vanguard.
