i am not too familiar with the secondary tournaments but I get the impressions that the NIT is second best. do we have a shot at this tournament? what is required?
Admin Edit: Created official thread for NIT or CBI selection watch.

Nit is a possibility with how hot we were at the end of the season but also the cba or cbi or whatever it is is also a possibility. We have made some noise this season at the end with the hank/bo pieces and our own good play. Anything is a possibility at this point. But with st marys and portland looking for the post season things might be slim for a 4th place team out of the wcc

CBI is likely our best chance for post season play. According to the website the methodology of picking which teams to participate seems pretty "loose".
Bracketing is done geographically into four regions of the country (East, West, South, Midwest) to minimize missed class time. Brackets will be balanced competitively within each region. The final selection and bracketing process takes place after the NCAA Tournament field is announced.
The 16-team field consists of teams that are not selected for the NCAA Tournament. Teams will be invited based upon their performance during their conference and non-conference schedule, as well as how well the team is playing at the end of the regular season. I believe LMU finished the season pretty strongly. Too bad the game against the Zags wasn't closer but we have some nice resume wins.

I looked up Portland's trip to CBI. They were (19-12) and bounced from WCC Final Four by NIT bound SMC (a ten point loss in that game).
[Correction] Portland was invited to the inaugural CIT (College Insider) Tournament that invites 16 teams. Seems similar to CBI.

I believe that St. Mary's makes the tourney since it looks like they will face the 'Zags in the title game tomorrow.
Portland will be NIT bound based on their good performances early in the season, plus they finished 3rd in a conference with two NCAA bound tourney teams.
I believe our best bet is the CBI after finishing 18-15 especially after two teams go to the tourney and one goes to the NIT.
I could see us playing a team from the Big West (such as Pacific/Long Beach St?) at home or going away to play a team from the WAC (Boise St again?) or Big Sky (Portland St)
Either way its a chance for us to get another win and shoot for a 20-win season.

Post-season play is not an impossibility, but it is not a lock. LMU's RPI is hovering around the 170s. Figure the top 96 make either NCAA or NIT. Then there are probably 32 spots left for the other tournaments. Granted, these tournaments don't pick strictly on the basis of RPI, so LMU's last 8 or so games will help. But, it's going to be a stretch. The 2 wins over Bakersfield, and wins over Seattle and Academy of Art aren't doing much to help here.
The Sports Information department must feel optimistic to include a reference to post-season play in its press release, so it will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Boise St isn't going to any post season tourney. They're 15-16 and second to last place in the WAC. Losing to them was one of LMU's worst losses of the year.

I was expecting a loss yesterday and am saddened by it. The Lions didn't play particularly well and the Zags came ready to play. Still, the Lions showed no quit when they cut the lead to six in the last half of the second half. They just blew their load getting back into it and ran out of gas at the end. Still, have to be proud of this team. Tremendous turnaround in just one season. I suspect it's going to be one of the top couple of turnarounds nationally. And with such a young team. The future looks good for the Lions. Any postseason is good at this point. Let the kids feel some reward for the season they had. Sure, they're disappointed, but they've come a long way. Post season experience can only help this team. Let the kids whet their appetite with some postseason games - it'll make them work that much harder over the summer and hit the ground running when the fall practices start. Congrats to the Lions.
