uncurselmu has a good argument. lets just say at this point i am thoroughly impressed with ashleys motor, drive, and physicality. drew is a smooth shooter. edgar needs to have a bit of a nasty streak in order to get to the next level. I think you put it well on edgar, he definitely lacks any sort of nasty streak. Kind of reminds me of Tex Winter's early criticism of Andrew Bynum (needs to show "fire in the belly"). I think Edgard's confidence has been so rattled that he isn't trying to impose himself. But you're dead on, for him to be successful and play the 5 well he needs to try to be a force in the middle, and can't be passive like he was last year. As much as I knock our team for not getting the ball into him, he needs to not only demand the ball, but truly want it.

I think you are right about fire in the belly related to AO but Edgar in my opinion is more of a maturity issue. Last 2 seasons while tailgating before games I remember seeing him walk over from the Loyola Apartments 15 min before game time and flirting with the coeds. Not really a problem chasing tail but I think he's got his priorities out of whack. He should've been in with the coaches and players breaking down film and learning from the other big men. Not to mention he does the same with the female trainers/managers during the games. It seems to me he just hasn't grown up yet. f*cking slippery slopes, how do they work?

Well the schedule doesnt look half bad. I'm happy we dont have a game against the Commune of hippies and other socialist artists this year. Good road games with Morgan State, FSU, and UCLA hopefully all those teams don't have drop offs. One thing I did see is the Play in game for the conference tourney. I cna't remember if we ever found out how that was going to happen, but now we know. 8 will play 9 and then 5 the next night like normal. So now there is an even larger importance in being top half of the conference. Even if we arent top 4 we get a team coming into the game playing the night before at the 5 spot. The one complaint that I have are the home and homes we get with teams in the same year, this year its Idaho State. Why cant we get one more team to come out and return the game in Idaho next year or they come here next year?

For the past couple of years, we looked at the schedule and were disappointed at Max Good's inability to draw challenging opponents. Well, this year, I'd say that he did such a good job, that we have bit off more than we can chew. Unfortunately, I see us with a below .500 non conference record, although we will get some good opponents.
Our UCLA matchup will obviously be challenging. Then Middle Tennesse St which will only be a couple days later at home will be similar to Morgan State, which he lost. Then in our host tournament we play an Ivy League favorite in Harvard who will feature one of our former recruits Wesley Saunders. (Hope to see Jeremy Lin in attendance watching). The last game in that tourney against NCAA Tourney sleeper North Texas will also be difficult, although lucky for us Tony Mitchell won't be playing yet. And even playing against Rick Majerus's Saint Louis will be tricky.
Playing at Morgan State and then Florida State will also be a tough road trip for our guys.
I love me some LMU basketball, but ouch, I can easily see us going something like 5-9 out of the WCC (including La Sierra and LaVerne). But at least we wont be losing to South Dakota A&M or something.
However, at the chance that I sound too down on the team, I truly hope they surprise me and win some of those games against other Mid Majors, and maybe steal one of the games from UCLA/Florida State. We were in that game against FSU last season, but Chris Singleton's NBA-caliber defense really frustrated Drew Viney but he's now gone. UCLA will be loaded with prospects, BUT, they will still be trying to mesh and will be missing their expected point guard. Plus I think the Wear twins are overrated.
Also, what's the word on our breaking off matchups with Long Beach St, UCSB, UC Irvine, Sacramento State, and the Big West?

LMU will also host a BracketBuster game in February. The ESPN agreement called for LMU to play one on the road in 2011 (we played Portland State) and to host a Bracketbuster in 2012. Any idea if this is still happening? And who we might be playing?
