A nice read for long time Lion Fans.. I have always wondered myself if we have reached out to Wyking to gauge interest in coaching at his alma mater. lmulionsroar.com/?p=1561

Wyking should be a top candidate to replace Good when he retires.

kudos to Andy Hui, and ironlion for the great article on Wyking Jones.
While I did not know him personally, I was in the same class as Wyking at LMU, and always liked him as a player. It was also nice to see him get his start as an assistant coach at LMU before moving on to Pepperdine. Kind of lost track of him from the time that he left Pepperdine and when he went to Louisville. I was really interesting to see that during that time he worked in Nike's AAU program and then on to New Mexico.
After learning that, I really do think that Wyking has the connections and the ability to be a solid recruiter as a coach, and I would definitely like to see him get a real shot at taking over the LMU program the next time the position is open.
But, if the powers at be would like to go with someone with previous head coaching experience, i also think LMU alum Dunlap would make a good choice as well.

He is obviously regarded for working with high-end talent. Tyrone Wallace who could have gone to the NBA and been drafted in the First Round will return next year. The incentive is probably to play with Ivan Rabb the top recruit of California. They are expecting big things and I guess bringing in top gun assistants. Good luck to him. Maybe one day he can take over our program!

I hope I'm wrong but my hunch is that this hookers for recruits scandal at Louisville is going to seriously injure Wyking's quest for a D1 head coaching job. My understanding is that recruiting was Wyking's main duty so it is hard to believe he didn't know what was occurring.

Once he gets fired he can come replace Dunlap in 3 years. Perfect!

Well ... if we brought in a new coach now, we'd be going back to ground zero and starting over again. .......
Wait a minute .... We ARE starting over again next year!!!

Personally, I don't have an opinion one way or the other on whether Wyking Jones would be a good coach for LMU. I will say that the negativity in the cited Mercury News article was directed at Cal taking a previously untried assistant as a new head coach. The author states a couple of times that he has nothing negative on WJ. He is simply complaining that the Cal administration isn't putting enough effort into their BB program and their willingness shows by their going cheap by signing up a new head coach who has no head coaching experience.
Again, I have no opinion on WJ's coaching ability, but most mid-majors (like LMU) are stuck with hiring unproven head coaches. Meanwhile, the high majors (like Cal) usually have the luxury of picking off experienced head coaches from other programs.
... and, bottom line, it doesn't much matter because CMD is our head coach for the foreseeable future. The 2017-18 season is going to tell us a lot about whether that future looks bright or bleak.
