Evan Payne became the all time leading freshman scorer for LMU last week vs Pepperdine, logging 423 points for the season with at least 3 games to play, vs 417 recorded by Jared Dubois a few years ago. I think it is even more impressive as Evan did not get that many minutes early on in the season and JD was practically a full-time player all year in that ill-fated season with injuries and redshirts galore and Good's assumption of the program. I can understand LMU underplaying the achievement a bit so as not to distract from the great career of our beloved Anthony Ireland, but it is indeed remarkable nonetheless. www.lmulions.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/022614aab.htmlRead the items below the highlights.

Yes, congratulations to Evan. He also had a 21-point second half last night, and his 27-point game was his sixth 20th-point performance, tying the school freshman record.
He has had a remarkable season. He truly is fun to watch.

Evan won the game for us- hit huge shots when it mattered, was fearless and made his Free throws.

Agreed, from what I remember Vernon Teel went down midseason and Dubois was our undisputed #1 option whereas Payne emerged as our #2 option. Payne can develop into a great player, that block last night was one of the most impressive I've seen in years. I still feel like he looks lost on offense sometimes, and has a ways to go in becoming a solid, well rounded player on both ends of the floor but it's just scary to remember that he's just a freshman.

What is crazy is that Evan hasn't really even been able to practice to preserve his knee. If notice when he sits he has to getting heating pad on his leg right away. Him and Anthony are cut from the same cloth...tough warriors.

You would not know he has an injury from his energy on the court. He is a keeper.
Husak will have a tough decision to make this spring if the Lions win two more games (or so). The new talent, on-board and recruited, is indeed impressive. Plus, Siame (sigh).

From what I have heard about CMD he is a very much a "my way or the highway" type guy. I wonder what the back story is if this is true.

Hi Guys/Ladies My understanding is that he got into a little trouble i.e. being late to practice, being stubborn. Mike Dunlap IS hard nose on the court and the total opposite off the court. So whatever Evan did other than what I mentioned, Coach isn't going to stand for any nonsense.

Winter's observation is proving true - Dunlap is indeed a different animal ( not necessarily bad)

So whatever Evan did other than what I mentioned, Coach isn't going to stand for any nonsense. Well that explains a lot about Dunlap. I hope he gets it together. From a teacher's perspective, being Jekyll and Hyde is confusing and misleading to those he's instructing. These are college kids, not professional players who have experienced life. Sending mixed signals is usually destructive when laying out expectations. Is Dunlap cool and approachable? Or is he doing that to trick you into messing up? Sure you'll separate the pack between those who are willing to become your little followers and those that are naturally self-policing. But I hope he doesn't alienate even more players because he's confusing. I hope Payne is a less sensitive kid than Dunlap, because right now he's probably thinking about those offers he had to player another more competitive program. Remember, lots of kids still transfer after year 2. I'm still going to reserve judgement of the coach before I see the team for a few years ,but it wouldn't hurt to start looking forward. Literally we've heard nothing but bad press the whole summer. Are the kids that we lost world class? No I get that. But so far all we're hearing is kids transferring or Dunlap doesn't like this he doesn't like that, he's not very personable or friendly to the fans (unless I guess you're a big donor and you get to share time with him). For a NBA coach to step to your small mid-major school with not a huge history should be something met with great excitement, passion and optimism, but lets be real unless you're angling for news on this type of website, the incoming freshman or last year's LMU students are not excited about b-ball. Somebody needs to save Dunlap from himself, maybe they can do some type of social media campaign where he's just a face but you don't hear from him or something. GOlly .

GOlly . you touched on a lot there but I just want to address the on court/off court dynamic. I have no problem with dunlap trying to instill in our players the idea that when it comes to the basketball court things are serious. Nearly all truly great basketball players turn dead serious once they step on the floor. Yeah there may be some exceptions ("we talkin about practice" allen iverson) but there's a reason his career ended 6 years too early and he's dead broke. Obviously there are limits and a way to handle things. I hope dunlap doesn't let his attitude run away but i think reprimanding your star player sends a strong message to the entire team. No one like's to feel like some people get a pass in practice.
