Here is my list:
1) Someone who will updhold the Jesuit standards 2) Someone who will graduate our players and keep them out of trouble 3) Someone who will demonstrate a strong grasp of solid basketball fundamentals 4) Someone who plays a brand of basketball that is aesthetically pleasing 5) Someone who will get our team in the top half of the WCC consistently 6) Someone who will install a long-term plan to insure our basketball program competes for the WCC Title. 7) Someone I can be proud to say is the coach at MY school. 8) Someone who will recruit players that can compete with the likes of Gonzaga, St. Mary's, BYU. 9) Someone who is young and can at the very least set a marker that will insure long-term success and stability. 10) Most of all someone who end the dry spell of NCAA Appearance so that I can see LMU in the Big Dance again before I die.
That is all.

How about someone who has enough credibility to sit down with everyone on their roster and have a serious shot at convincing our core to stick around. This is a scary process but if executed right we could avoid any drastic rebuilding period.

Okay, it appears Dunlap is the consensus favorite for the job. First of all, Dunlap can sit down with a player and tell them he has been an NBA head coach and can help players get there (sure, his record wasn't good, but other than Kemba Walker he didn't have much to work with). Secondly, I did a little research. I think this Internet thing may stay for awhile. I found this blog done by Dunlap. He appears to write 2 or 3 times a week. I glanced through it. Pretty insightful. Check out the February 24 blog regarding "when your team hits a lull". www.coachdunlap.com/blog.html

I'm not too hot on Dunlap. He seemed to have huge problems in the locker room. Granted some great college coaches would have a tough time w/ nba players I think some of the things like him being abrasive, having a bad attitude, and running long grueling practices sound a little too similar.

As I posted a few weeks ago, the school has had a replacement plan in place for some time now. The decision has been made. Don't waste too much time speculating on who should be interviewed, etc, etc. I expect the formal announcement will occur very soon now. No sense in holding off. In fact, it would be unwise to hold off.
Whether we retain or lose current players and new recruits is something that each player is going to have to answer. Each player will find pros and cons with the new coach and his staff. If a player feels comfortable with what he hears from the new coach, he might stick with LMU. If he is uncomfortable, he won't. LA weather, a beautiful campus and all the other attributes don't mean near as much as the player-coach relationship, and how that player sees himself fitting in to the new regime.

I find this both comforting and scary. I agree there is no reason to hold off so it's more comforting than anything, just anxious to see who it is.

If the decision is made then, pray tell who?

I read a bit more of Dunlap's blog. The guy definitely eats/sleeps basketball and is a fascinating read. If he is going to be our coach, his February 3rd entry talks about the type of players he wants to recruit. I could not cut/paste the entry, so go to the link below and find February 3rd entry. www.coachdunlap.com/blog.html

Oh he likes a good shooter? Music to my ears. When was the last tie LMU had a guy that could consistently knock down a 3?

I believe it is in your screen name. I'm trying to think of deadeye shooters the past 25 years. Fryer, sloth-footed Ross Richardson, Charlie Brown?, Viney, that's about it. Maybe Holt. I'd say Terrell and Viney are the top two since the great 8 team.

Dunlap seems like a very thoughtful person - one who might teach when a teaching moment occurs rather than scowling at players. Reminds me of Wooden who had a lot to say about basketball, leadership and life in his speeches. I like the pro connections also and experience.

We always wanted an X's and O's guy with Max Good around. Well if Dunlap is the next coach, we definitely have our X's and O's guy. I follow St. Johns closely because my family is good friends with the Lavins. Anyway, that board always seemed to speak highly of Dunlap and how Lavin needed him for his technical coaching ability and such. Let's just hope he can bring in the talent.
I would also add Wes Wadrop to the list of good LMU shooters.

If you go to the St John's boards (redmen.com) there is a thread about Dunlap and LMU if you want another fan base's opinion.
