green - that could be good. Next year's class needs a real infusion of inside size.

Ray Johnson has connections with Gamepoint AAU, the team Jackie played for this past summer. Would be more surprised if he doesnt come here

Here is recent season highlights video of Jackie Davis. The level of competition (I use the term loosely) is very low. Jackie looks smooth but there is some question as to how he (and his game) will respond when the game speeds up. He seems to take his time with his jumper and with some of his moves. He has that luxury against slower and smaller competition. Unfortunately the video doesn't show much passing and playmaking. It's mostly dunks, pull-up jumpers and some long range shots. We all know video can be tricky but watching this video, I didn't leave with the Wow! response that I did when I saw video from AI or Levin or even......Kyron Cartright. Let's hope that if Jackie comes to LMU that he has another gear that will come out against bigger, faster, better players. Patiently waiting for news on other recruits. I have a feeling that Dunlap is working international contacts (Australia, China....) and the JC ranks. Unsigned 2014 high schoolers seem to be limited at this stage in the game.

I agree about the Australian connection. Let's bring in Dante Exum. I'm sure he could run the point and he's got a very quick first step.
All kidding aside, I agree with you about looking overseas, but what about to the neighbors from the north? Gonzaga has really hit the Canadian pipeline pretty well.

Pump, there will always be questions and the need for development with players particularly incoming freshman. From this highlight video I see a number of things that Jackie adds that LMU doesn't have and needs.
1. I like his body. He has good size for a guard and is not frail. He frame will support additional muscle and strength. We need more players with this type of body structure.
2. He is an athletic basketball player not just athletic. He uses both hands well. he goes to the hoop with authority with both hands. He already has a decent cross-over dribble going both ways.
3. He has good shooting form. His shot is soft. He can pull-up and step back. He has elevation on his jumper. Oh, and it looks like he can SHOOT. At all three levels.
4. According to what I have read, he's grown 4 or 5 inches in the last year or so but he clearly has maintained smooth athleticism. He may not be done growing.
5. He can shoot.
6. He can dribble and shoot off his dribble. He can drive and pull-up for a mid-range jumper.
7. And, he can shoot.
Obviously, I'm being facetious but only a little. We lack shooters big time and getting players who have soft jumpers is our biggest need. In truth, Jackie reminds me of a young Stephen Holt. And, we could use more than one Stephen Holt.

Thanks Pump and good comments longtime. I also noted from the video that he elevates well on his jumper and has great body control on his drives to the hoop, often finishing in an unexpected manner. Yes, the level of competition was poor but the kid has skills galore. We did not see much of his defense but he often was well ahead of the pack on break-away dunks. And I did see one assist about the 7 min 50 sec mark so he is a "true point guard" - he fed the "roll" player. At 6'4" (as the video indicates) he will be a force on the court. Let's sign him!

Having talked to people close to the kid and who know his family, say He will probably grow to be about 6'6. Very good athleticism, good body control, good body. Whats not to like? I dont like this word, but he does scream "potential" galore. Definitely worth a flier IMO.A 6'6 point guard with that athleticism and a decent looking jump shot is definitely worth a scholarship. Hope we get Jackie.

I'm impressed. Obviously no one wants to get carried away considering he was probably the 3rd/4th tallest person on the floor in like 80% of those games but he looks solid.
I will say, I no longer think of him as a point guard, at all. Maybe he has some of those leadership, game management skills that a lead guard has, but if he has any future as a PG he will need to grow a lot as a player. Even though his passing skills were hardly highlighted, It looks like he has enough to at least not be a blackhole at the shooting guard spot. He seems to have far too much game to pass up.
I like the Idea of grabbing Maleke Haynes and Davis. Both are athletic and I think their games would be complementary (although neither of them solves our shooting woes).

To get a handle on expectations re recruiting news, I consulted the NCAA recruiting calendar: NCAA Men’s Basketball Recruiting Calendar April 3-10 - Dead Period April 10 (noon) – 23 - Recruiting Period Except April 14-17 Dead Period April 24 – July 5 – Quiet Period Except: April 25-27 – Evaluation Period
July 9-13 Evaluation Period July 16-20 Evaluation Period July 23-27 Evaluation Period www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/MBKB_13-14.pdfIf I understand this cryptic calendar, we can expect our next “early” signings in the period between April 10 (Thursday) and April 14 (Monday). If not then, the next dates are April 18 (Friday) thru April 24 (Thursday). After these dates, I’m lost?? Is this the correct reading of NCAA’s calendar? The point is we might see some new recruit information from the administration in the next few days – if not, a week later.

Looking at the list of schools w/ offers for Watson I think ours is ideally suited. Unfortunately we're up at the top w/ the NCAA champs, UCONN, who are coached by one of the hottest commodities in the NCAA, Kevin Ollie.
Pure speculation: As strong of a hand as UCONN has I have to think that the possibility of Ollie bolting to the NBA this summer or in the next will be something that gives Watson pause. We might have to wait a while (after the NBA playoffs?) to get the final word on Devin Watson.

Watson does not have an offer from UCONN. It was said by his AAU coach in an attempt to try and get more interest in Watson. UCONN already has multiple guards coming in as freshman or transfers and would not need to recruit a mid major point guard. Have been hearing that Watson is "lock" to Saint Marys... but I'm not completely sold on that.
