The former Daily Breeze player of the year, Daddy Ugbede, is transferring from Drake. He is a product of Serra High School in Gardena where he put up huge numbers and was a much sought after recruit. His numbers during his first two years at Drake are very modest. Maybe an injury? Anyway, given that he is a SoCal product, a Nigerian who possibly already knows Godwin and Deji from Nigerian youth basketball circles, it would be worth our staff's while to check him out. If anyone has more on him, please share.

Daddy Ugbede“Daddy” was identified as a recruit in 2012 on this board but with not much follow up. lmulions.proboards.com/thread/1485/daddy-ugbede-2012-lmu-recruitESPN Opinion: Power Forward - 6’7”, 220, Junipero Serra High, Gardena Scout Grade 85, 2-star Ranked #32 in CA state “ESPN Analyst Updated 06/14/2012 Strengths: Ugbede is a scoring machine inside 15-feet of the basket. The chiseled left-hander has a knack for scoring and he possesses a soft touch. He is a relentless face-up 4-man that can attack off the dribble or gobble up rebounds and finish through contact. In addition, he has a very soft touch out to the elbow.
Weaknesses: Ugbede is undersized for the high-major level. When he plays against length he struggles being consistent. In addition, to increase his stock he needs to tighten up his ball handling and be more affective going right as he is left. Moreover, he needs to extend his shooting range as his shot has a tendency to fall apart outside 15-feet. Bottom Line: Ugbede has a great motor and possesses a tremendous ability to score in bunches in the mid-range area. Due to his frame, athleticism, and scoring/rebounding prowess he would be a fine recruit at the mid-major level. NotesTravel Team: California Supreme...Native of Nigeria...” Looks like another Godwin with a better inside game on offense.

If anyone has more on him, please share. We are all very sorry to see Daddy leave Drake. He has been a terrific addition to the program, on and off the court. He has a terrific work ethic and puts his heart and soul into every minute on the court. His skill set, however, doesn't fit into the offense our new coach plays..and that hurts him. He doesn't really have a jump shot, nor does he create any outside threat. His strengths are all inside quickness. With him being undersized in the Missouri Valley at the 4 or 5 position he had trouble defensively matching up ( you see 6'9-7'0) guys every night at the 5 and sometimes even at the 4. So that was a hard matchup. He worked very hard to offset this but yo can only do so much. Hope you look at Daddy and hope he finds a good home...hes a nice young man and we all enjoyed his contribution to Drake.

Thanks for sharing the insight, drakefan. Other than a a few teams, I'm sure the bigs in our conference aren't as big as the MVC, so it may indeed be a fit.
Just curious, have you heard any rumblings of Daddy coming to LMU or did you find the message board via Google search of his name? Just wondering. Good luck to Drake in the future.
