Looks like Anthony signed a contract with a French team. I don't know how the Chalone sur Saone staff has seen enough of Anthony to name him to their starting five but they list him as a starter along with other Americans Marcus Dove from Oklahoma State, Elston Turner All SEC forward from Texas A&M and Scott Suggs from UW. First geme is September 22. Go Anthony! Founnd this on Eurobasket.com. It's great to hear he'll be able to play with and against some great competition. AI needed a year to adjust to the faster speed and bigger players (especially in the paint since he drives so much) before he proved some of the skeptics wrong and showed that he was indeed a top wcc player. He looked to be in much better shape w/ the vegas summers league and has gotten some great competition against draft prospects leading up to to the draft in workouts. Working w/ a team like the lakers is a great experience and he got to practice against 2 nba pg's (RB and Marshall) and Jordan Clarkson who looks like a gem. Even though he didn't have big minutes in the actual games he learned a lot. He's gotten a taste for what the challenge truly is and just like the summer between his freshman and sophomore year I think he will make a big leap forward after a year overseas.

I decided to look up to see how AI was doing in the French league. His team Chalon is 2-2 after the first 4 games. They are technically listed in 13th place out of 18 teams, but are 1 of the 9 teams from 5th through 14th that have a 2-2 record. AI is listed as the starting point guard for the team and is averaging 26.8 mpg, 11.3 ppg, 4 asst/gm 2.5 rb/gme and 1.8 turnovers. 1st game he played 18 mins went 1-5 with 2 pts and 1 asst and 3 turnovers and the team lost. 2nd game he played 35 mins went 8-10 with 19pts and 7 assts 2 rebounds and 2 turnovers the team won. 3rd game he played 29 mins went 5-10 with 13pts and 1 asst 4 rebounds and 1 turnover the team lost. 4th game he played 25 mins went 4-11 with 11pts and 7 asst 2 rebounds and 1 turnover the team won. Their next game is Saturday Oct 25th against Nancy (2-2) 5th place. I was checking to see if there are any online links for Saturdays game, but as of right now i am not seeing any. Here is the link to the site that has all the stats and results for the season: basketball.eurobasket.com/team/France/ES_Chalon-Sur-Saone/878Nice to see that AI is off to a pretty good start in the French League!

just another update on AI and his French team. Chalon is currently in 5th place in the league with a 4-3 record, and their next game is tomorrow (tues 11-18) against the 4th place team Gravlines (5-2).
AI's playing avgs are 31.5 mins a game 11.4 pts/game 3.6 asst/game & 3.3 rebounds/game. Here is the English translation of the box score write up from their last game that they won 94-84 against Paris-Levallios:
"the guests were tied at half but managed to speed up in last 2 quarters eventually winning the game. American players dominated also this game. It was a very good performance for guard Jason Rich who helped win the game with 26 pts 5 rebounds & 4 assists. point guard anthony ireland (loyola mary) contributed with 16 pts 7 rebounds & 6 assists for the winners"
Hopefully AI continues to be a key to Chalon continuing their climb in the league standings.
added note, for those interested it looks like there maybe an online streaming link for Tuesday's game. wiziwig.tv has the game listed on their site, and streaming links will appear about an hour prior to the start of the game. Looks like tip off should be around 11:50 am pst.

Hi everyone. New to the board and hope you don't kick me off when I tell you that I am a BYU fan. While I love watching BYU play I love watching good bball even more hence the name "bball is king". I'm always looking for a good civilized board to chat with so hope you don't mind if I drop in once in a while. I promise to always be on my best behavior Anyway, just wanted to say from an opposing side how much I enjoyed watching Ireland play. On the court he never took a play off, left it all out there, but most importantly always both on and off the court seemed so classy. The game needs more players like him. Also, thought you might want to know that he will be getting some much needed help on his French time down in the low post from a familiar face. They just signed former BYU center Brandon Davies late Sunday. Davies played the last year and a half with the Phi 76ers but was traded last week to Brooklyn Nets that then immediately cut him for salary reasons. Would love to see AI and Davies running a break together. FYI, I pulled up AI's stats so far. He's averaging 25 minutes in 12 games, 44.6% FG, 40% 3pt FG, 89.3% FT, 2.7 Reb, 3.7 Assists, 1.1 fouls, 0.9 steals, 1.9 turnovers and 10.3 points. Looks like the coach keeps the scoring spread out as the top 5 scorers average between 10.3 and 12.7 points per game and 8 players average between 23 and 29 minutes per game.

bball - new members are always welcome. Of course, we may tell you to root for the Lions once in awhile (we need the help)!
I was sorry to see Brandon cut by the Nets but it's great to see him hooked up with AI. Wouldn't those two have made a great tandem in the WCC! We Lions fans felt it a privilege to watch AI up close and personal for 4 great years. And yes he was pure class act on and off the court.
BYU is struggling some this year without a front court, but you've got a bright future with strong reinforcements on their way.

Thanks for the AI update. While the victories were lacking, AI does seem to be universally respected. That is the best compliment of all.

ALioninWinter - thanks, and I have no problems cheering for LMU back here in Utah. In fact I have been for a long time now. I'm in my mid-40's and remember well watching Bo Kimble and Hank Gathers lighting up the scoreboards back in the late 80's. Well at least what was televised back then. And how could anyone from that time watch Bo shoot his first foul shot left handed and not want to pull for him? When BYU joined the WCC the first fan site I wanted to visit was this one. Despite falling on some hard times/bad luck these last couple of years you guys still keep things positive around here...for the most part, we are fans after all and need to vent sometimes . You team classy fans up with classy players like AI and a classy coach like Good and what was not to like? Too bad Good couldn't pull things together as I was really pulling for him. Hopefully Dunlap will right the ship but unfortunately you need to give any new coach at least 3 years to cycle in "his" players and such. Yep, BYU is hurting in the front court. That was their thinnest area coming in to the season and we end up losing both our starting center and projected starting power forward for most if not all the season. Austin had a ham string tear and was expected to miss about two weeks. Its now been over a month and they are hoping for a return on Jan 29 against USF. Jamal Aytes, a PF transfer from UNLV sat out last season but hurt his foot and probably won't be back until the end of the regular season so might just take a medical and sit out a second year. Oh well, if any school is used to having players sit out two years its BYU. Kaufusi has his moments but never took basketball serious in high school as football was his sport so never attended summer camps and such, even quit playing after his junior year. Oh well, him and Neilson are getting a lot of experience as Freshmen that will help when Mika and Dastrup, both top 100 front line recruits will be back after next season. Anyway, sorry to ramble about BYU on your board. Best of luck on the rest of this season and here's hoping that AI and Davies create an instant on-court chemistry and tear it up over seas.

Just finished watching the FIBA U19 Championship game (USA-Croatia) - Not sure if anyone has seen him play but Villanova PG Brunson (Frosh. this Fall) - plays uncannily like Ireland - Smaller, jittery and fearless. Wondering if anyone has seen him play and agrees or not?
