The Lions' opener is a cupcake .... Wichita State. A win in the first round probably leads to a second round game against Nebraska. A loss probably pits us against the host Rainbows.

Shockers also have seven new players on their roster.

Nice thing about this tournament is that every game is either on ESPNU or ESPN2 (real channels!) except for the 7th/8th place game- which could be on ESPN3 (internet) or ESPNU. So the Lions are guaranteed at least 2, possibly 3 games on cable when nothing else is on. www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=209604863

Ironlions--- they may have 7 new players but will still be preseason top 15, if not 10. Will be a supremely tough task for the Lions and will give us a great opportunity to see where we stack up as a team and where players like Payne, Hermann and others rank among the country's best. I am actually really happy we got Wichita State. Nebraska will be a top 25 team to open the year probably as well!

bebetterthanbradley has it correct.
Wichita State did lose their top scorer from last season: Early 16.4 ppg but all the other top scorers return, including guards: Baker 13.1, VanVleet 11.6, Cotton 10.3, and Wiggins 5.1; and forwards: Carter 7.9 and Lufile 5.9.
Their 7 new roster members include one 6’3” guard, two JC transfers (Wamukota 7’0” 225 Center, Glass 6’8” 195 PF), and 4 additional front court players (Brown 6’7” 180 SF, Kelly 6’7” 210 PF, Nurger 6’10” 230 PF, and Hamilton 6’8” 200 PF). Brown, Kelly and Nurger are all 3-star recruits.
I have to assume Winter was being facetious with his “cupcake” label for the Shockers – this game will be a real test for the Lions.

Yes, I was being facetious. Shoot, if anyone in this tournament is going to be considered a cupcake, I'm afraid it's our Lions. Tough tournament....but that's the way I like 'em.
