Season ticket holders (at least) will get to see the new team scrimmage on Saturday Oct 25 at 5 pm. (At least so I hear.) We'll have an opportunity to judge for ourselves whether there is cause for optimism this season based on actually watching the players and the coaching plans in action. Exciting no? Go Lions!

Midnight madness is for the young folks. Maybe Ironlion can fill us in on details, like who wins the slam dunk contest (Levin last year), the dance contest and other trivia?

I actually attended Midnight Madness a few years ago. It was very interesting. I learned absolutely nothing about the team that year (other than the fact that they weren't very good dancers), but it was certainly an interesting evening. To say it's for the young folks is about as strong an understatement that you could ever make. But it was kinda fun.

I think Payne will be a mainstay in the lineup this season with a significant role starting in game #1.

Hi Remember I said this in a earlier blog?
"Evan will probably start 90% plus of the games, but Dunlap is going to make him earn it like everyone else. If you're not working hard, being a team guy, have good character, be a good student, then the results are, you don't get to play. Coach Dunlap said as of RIGHT NOW these are the starters..means nothing. "
Because a guy can dunk (which is great) doesn't necessarily make him a starter, it means he's a wonderful athlete. And as far as what he did last year (which also was fenominal), that was his opportunity to be great with all the injuries, the team depleted of ball players, he made the absolute best of a bad situation.
GO LIONS!!

It's not much of a mystery. Evan was a beast last year and showed a lot of promise but what he didn't show consistently was discipline w/ the ball and defense. He has all of the physical tools to be an exceptional defender but needs to push himself. I agree with the sentiment that when the season rolls around we're not going to see evan on the bench much at all.

Uncurselmu's comment is right on the money. Indeed, Dunlap has said as much. While much attention has been given to his response about a present starting line-up more than one month before the first real game is played, your attention is kindly directed to Dunlap's answer to a subsequent question about what to expect from Evan this year. Dunlap's answer mentioned Evan being a better distributor and top one on one defender.
Evan and everyone here wants to see his game improve. Last year everyone knew when the ball went to Evan chances were he was going to shoot or drive and shoot not pass. And, the team needed his scoring. Hopefully, this team has, as advertised, added many offensive weapons and without doubt improved defense is essential to an improved record and standing. Thus, Evan, one of the team's best talents, has to improve his team play and defense to achieve these goals. Why is anybody against the team and Evan improving? Improvement doesn't happen without focus, attention and dedication. It is, and has to be, about the team not individuals.

Madness has been one of the most popular events on campus. I hope they change it back to the old format where all teams compete in the dance competition.

Wow, sad news about M@M. I've been before and it is a great experience for students and the alumni lucky enough to slip in. It's a shame it seems someone is "censoring" the event. No mens performance and "toned down" women!?
This does not sounds like an organic progression for the event. But I suspect someone, perhaps Dunlap, wanted the focus steered towards basketball and not the all-out pride inspired burlesque review M@M was transforming into.
Hopefully the event will bounce back and go back to being different and well ... out of control... as it was a "must" attend for anyone in a 2mi radius of campus and not surprisingly Gertsten would be packed to the rafters. I can appreciate an enhanced focus on basketball but LMU took Midnight Madness and created a more radical but completely "college" experience. Not to mention it gave all the student athletes a chance to really have fun in front of audiences many will never see again.
