Looks like Dunlap will need to go with more JC, Australian and European Players based on the current lack of signings in US players. It make take him a few years to build on the recruiting circuit and if the Lions have some success with an improved record that may help landing some local recruits as well.

Lmu is recruiting 5-11 PG Terrance Phillipps who plays at Oak Hill Academy. He is a true point guard with a lot of speed. I watched him at a camp this summer and was very impressed. He is a bit under recruited at this point.

Let's hope we get this guy or someone like him for next year. After watching the first 2 games, it's very apparent that we need a point guard. Chase is serviceable but we all know he is not a threat from the outside and will be exploited defensively by quicker players. I know he's just a sophomore and adjusting to D1 ball but Hayes seems destined to be a shooter and not a playmaker. He struggled against the press and struggled defensively. Again, I love the fact that he can shoot but he is not the answer at the point. Right now, our priorites for next year seems to be point guard and an athletic wing. Patson and Herman have to goods to anchor the inside in the future.

Plus with internationals like Herman or Siame who are both like the equivalent of college juniors, there is always the threat of euro pro teams to take them away. They arent your American college freshmen. Speaking of Euros, what happened to Kravcovic? People on this site were raving about him? Is he hurt?

Washington guard Jahmel Taylor announced that leaving the program and is looking to transfer. He is a well regarded LA based 3 star recruit who didn't get playing time with the Huskies. He is looking for playing time. I know a program that needs help at guard that might be a good home for him. verbalcommits.com/players/jahmel-taylor

He won't help next season - we need help now!
Scouting Report out of high school:
Scouting Report
ESPN Analyst Updated 05/01/2013
Strengths: Taylor is an undersized combo-guard, but he has great speed and quickness and he's extremely strong. In addition, he can knock down shots from anywhere on the court. His range extends out to 23-feet and he gets great lift on his shot. He can pull-up in transition or explode to the hole.He has a muscular physique, solid athleticism, as well as a prolific jump shot that extends out to 25-feet. His shot is tight and his release is smooth and he's always on balance. His point guard skills (game management/pick-and-roll) have improved as well as his pace.
Weaknesses: Despite his shooting prowess, he showed that he needs work on some other areas of the game. First, his left hand needs polishing. He isn't very strong going left and he lacks touch finishing with his left. Secondly, at this size, he needs to develop more of a point guard's mentality. Taylor still needs to implement other skills (changing speeds for example), but overall his game is evolving.
Bottom line: Overall, it will be interesting to see how he develops because physically he appears to be already maxed out. Taylor's overall savvy for the point guard position needs to improve. He has a scorer's mentality, but he has a tendency to penetrate into the teeth of the defense far too much-leading to turnovers and bad shot selection. Taylor led his team to the championship of the Mayor's Cup division due to his ability of making shots%u2014most notably from the outside.

Ironlions or anyone else correct me if I am wrong, but if Taylor (or anyone) transfers in before the second semester begins (January 12, I believe), then the player would only miss our first 7 or 8 games next season. He would be eligible after finals (around December 10) and have three weeks to play prior to the WCC slate of 2015-2016.

You are correct a player becomes eligble one calendar after his arrival. That being said Taylor isn't really what LMU needs ... he is undersize 2' guard. There are also some issue with dunlap and Taylor's aau coach.

Verbal Commits shows that we have shown interest in a few local PGs.
Khalil Simpson from Campbell Hall C.J. Hankins from Orange Lutheran Jason Richardson from Serra
All of those it shows only interest, but no offer, and a ton of stiff competition. I think all are listed as 2-star guards. Based on the big recruiting scrum for 2-star guards, seems like PG might be a thin position this year at the local level.
So far I count 2 open scholarships available (that we know of) with Deji, Okonji and Chase graduating. Haney is already occupying one, correct? Jacko comes next year as well, fresh off a year from posting on twitter all day.

This may sound crazy, but maybe Humphries could be our "point guard" next year?
If we have Haney, Payne, Mornar and Siame, why not have Humphries control the ball? We don't run a ton, and on defense we could have Haney and Payne at top of zone (so Humphries could still rebound).
He could be Collinsworth-like!
When Krajovic or Hayes check in, Humphries would slide to the "3".
Thoughts?

Humphries does a lot of things well so he's a guy you want on the floor one way or another. I don't see him playing the point because his strengths are spot up shooting, moving without the ball, and rebounding as you note. I am confident that coaches will bring in a solid PG whether from high school or community college. Any potential PG recruit should see LMU as a more than viable option to come in an play right away with a nice supporting cast. I also think we will run more with smaller quicker point guard running the show. Whoever the point guard is, I want Humphries on the court with him. He's the type of guy in pick-up basketball who doesn't get picked first yet his team just keeps winning.

SLB, the Lions have at least three available scholarships for next year - Chase, Deji & Godwin are seniors. Haney is on scholarship now. Jacko has committed to one.
There are also threads here that cite to reports recruiting Tutu from Canada and Brown from Phoenix College, both of whom are point guards.

Has anyone heard of Jayce Johnson of the class of 2016? He is a coordinated 6'11" 250 center with a big motor and finished with either hand. He is drawing High Major offers from Arizona State, Auburn and Washington State, as well as Gonzaga (high major??). He will be a senior next season at Santa Monica HS. Perhaps a long shot but the Lions should jump on this one now.

Definitely does not sound like a Dunlap type of player. Probably plays AAU!
