Aussielion, we didn't even qualify for the wooden spoon in 09. Media timeout is a required time-out for TV/radio commercials.

Aussie - A little more definition on the media timeouts. Since TV is the medium we have to enjoy watching college BB, we have to put up with all the advertisements. All games have media timeouts, even those that are not being broadcast on TV. The reason for that is to even things out between broadcast and non-broadcast games. Since those incessant media timeouts have become so frequent, they really change the complexion of a game.

Did not qualify for the wooden spoon wow i am deflated never supported a team that bad, cant get used to the game taking so long to play with these media time outs etc, is that Pizzas they give away during the time out.......oh well it seems the only way is up from where we are so that cant be all bad,so i am predicting our game will come together by the time the real games start and we will finish nearer the top than the bottom. If im wrong ill buy you all a beer (Aussie beer of course)

I know this was a few days ago, but BYU has a Wake Forest-transfer guard that made 7 three-pointers in the first 6 1/2 minutes of their game at Chaminade the other day. Chase Fischer is his name, and he ended up with 10 three-pointers as BYU scored 121 points.
BYU is averaging 95.7 points per game and is 5-2, with both of their losses coming in overtime (double OT to San Diego State and single OT to Purdue).

BYU has a lot of talent. They also have UNLV transfer Aytles coming at mid-season. He's a very good 6'8" forward. They will win a lot of games and are definitely better than we are. However they have two significant weaknesses. They have very poor post play. Mika went on his mission. Their only real inside guy is 6'10" Nate Austin. He's not bad, but he's not what a good team wants to see at their post. They also have Kafusi. You might recall a Kafusi the last couple of years. He was (is) a football player. Unfortunately, he played basketball like he plays football. Very brutish guy. The current Kafusi is the younger brother. He is a freshman. He is bigger and better than his older brother. Unfortunately for the Cougs, that's about all they have in the middle. It's enough to get past us and a number of other teams but it will keep them from challenging the top teams ... including Gonzaga.
Their second weakness is the lack of a point guard. Coach Rose is filling the position now by committee. Again, the guys playing point are good enough for BYU to best most teams but not enough to get by the top teams.
I still pick BYU to finish second in the WCC. I watched Collinsworth in Hawaii. He seems to have fully recovered from last season's injury.

Couple of chances to catch WCC teams in action tonight. Pepperdine 8 point favorites over Northridge at home - seems high. And SDSU 12 over USD (and that great sub-500 coaching phenome Bill Grier). Steve Fisher does make $150K per season more than Grier but the differences in records, attendance, hell any conceivable measure are stark. Still Fisher better keep his eye on those guards.
