“2013-2014 Season Highlights
• 2013-2014 CCCAA State Champions
• Big 8 Conference Champions
• Kris Kringle Tournament Champions
After winning the Big 8 Conference Title, and going undefeated in the regional playoffs (including a fourth round upset at Fresno City College), SRJC Men's Basketball team advanced to the CCCAA Final Four for the first time as the north's no. 1 seed. The Cubs opened the State Tournament by beating the south's no. 2 seed Chaffey College 49-47, Which put them in the CCCAA title game with a chance to win their first ever Men's Basketball State Championship. In the championship game, SRJC faced the south's no. 1 seed San Bernardino Valley. Although the Cubs got off to a slow start and went into halftime trailing 29-32, they proved that they were the best shooting team in the state, eventually overtaking San Bernardino winning the game 73-67. The 2013-2014 SRJC team now holds the school's first ever State Championship in men's basketball.”

The Lions lost significant scoring from last season: 55.1 points per game from top scorers.
The Lions averaged 73.3 ppg so this represents 75% of their scoring – now gone from the roster.
Can the Lions recover with their new talent? That is the million dollar question this season.
David Humphries is a promising addition and he showed his potential in the Lions’ first exhibition game.
Matt Hayes has the credentials as a team player and has reportedly shown up well in practice.
One key will be the play of the bigs: Godwin has shown maturity and an inside game in our one game so far and is very fit. Herman has promise as does Siame, which we hope to see as the season evolves.
Another key is the relationship of top returning player Evan Payne with the new coaching staff: he seems to be in the dog house a bit too often for my taste. Basketball should be fun, not a penal experience, and I think I heard Dunlap say so in some context. I hope the relationship with Evan improves as we need his talents.
Based on the above profile, how would you guage the Lions’ prospects this season? Too many unknowns and tbds for my crystal ball but I am worried right now. This weekend will tell a tale.
