BYU is BYU – big and talented and hard to beat. But they showed their vulnerability with their home loss to Pepperdine when favored by 15.5! How do you figure? The Cougars were 1 for 12 from 3-pt range in that loss.
One might argue that LMU’s bigs are better but it ends there – BYU has four guards scoring in double figures.
I’ll settle for a competitive outing and don’t expect a win.
Gametime: Saturday, Jan 10, 6 pm (7 MST) in Provo. TV: BYU TV

Sold Lion. I admit I'm hooked anyway so I'll be on hand or turning in no matter what. It's just that we could use a "fix" and a competitive game would be welcome and an upset would really hit the spot. Yeah, BYU might be extra aware of the upset potential and probably come out very focused. If we employ the 2-3 as effectively we did last night we could have a chance. After all Hawes got his 26 points last night anyway so it isn't necessary to sell out guarding him. BYU's lack of 3 point shooting only needs to manifest itself tomorrow as a continuing and serious team uncertainty.
In addition to our chronic turnover problem I still don't grasp our chronic habit of "playing" (slowly) mostly with ourselves, apparently without purpose, far away from the basket until the last 2-5 seconds then either forcing a ridiculous attempt or getting a shot clock violation. The goal undoubtedly is to get an open shot but frankly I've never seen a single damn point attributable to that strategy. Or the idea may be to play deliberate basketball and keep the "pace (slow) to our liking; well it seems to me that we actually do better in a more chaotic up and down game, we couldn't do much worse . It may be time to scrap that set and stick to strategies that actually produce points. Also I would like to see us try a more organized and aggressive capability to press in the back court. Toward the end of games when we are down 8-15 points in the last 4-5 minutes we are just screwed by the lack of ability to force turnovers, or even convey notable urgency.

eh I meant I "would be tuning in". I don't turn in until after the games.

Husky, I'm not sure about rushing the offense as a strategy. Dunlap is probably worried about the game getting out of hand quickly with a hurry up style, and so am I. If I recall correctly, most of our points in the first half last night were from virtual lay ups resulting from patient play until the good shot was there. Plus, I don't think we have the fire power to run with the ball unless a few more guys step up. Regarding prospects for a win, I'm watching Patson closely to see how his offensive game develops. Right now, he has a tendency to hurry his shots when under the basket, probably because the game "looks fast" to him. When he matures, and the game seems to slow down from his perspective, I think his offense will really blossom given his physique and athleticism. But he's still learning.
Go Lions!

Looks like the Lions will be 21 point underdogs tomorrow.
I think we can beat this spread if we play focused and deliberate ball.
I just bet faux money on WCC Pick 'em.

I think this is much like the other night when the Lakers played the Clippers. blake griffin said its not a big deal beating the Lakers. It's not about the Lakers it's about whatever they (the Clippers do). I'm pretty sure BYU is not playing this game not to be upset. If they play their game they'll win 20.

King, I of course agree that playing out of control isn't desirable but I am saying that playing keep away by ourselves near the middle of the court while the other team looks on in bemusement isn't working. Our rushed shots that I have noticed mostly occur when we are frantically trying to get a shot off before the 35 second clock expires, which happens all too often. I certainly respect the coaches judgement as to whether we have the talent to play at a certain speed. As a spectator though I would prefer to see strategies that aren't working shelved and other approaches at least tried. Also from the perspective of a fan, at this point even if something different doesn't work, what can it hurt to at least try? Mike is certainly capable to do some shaking up; witness a walk on point guard in the middle of the last game.

Apparently Evan won't be playing tonight (team rules). It will be interesting to see who steps up.

What?? Wish I knew before backing the Lions in WCC Pick'em! Our defense better be very tight to beat the 21 point line.

I once coached a Boys and Girls Club team that was shut out in one game. Tonight, Dunlap might tie my record.
What in the world did Evan do?!

I did see Evan on the bench - at the far end away from Dunlap

At least our 3-point defense is sharp! Like the Maginot line in WWI
