I actually thought Evan played well and, for the most part, took good shots even though he really had to work for them and could have started forcing it. He had at least 5 or 6 shots that went (way) in and out. Not his night but sometimes they just don't fall. No Deji in the 2nd half really hurt. Money only got a couple looks but obviously they keyed on him and Evan knowing Chase wasn't going to hurt them much. The other option that they gave us was Godwin and he played well. As far as guarding against the 3 goes, it's tough when your game plan is to not let Waldow beat you and your opponent moves the ball well, has 3 really good outside shooters, and one (Bright) who can also penatrate and finish/dish. If they shoot like they did tonight, it's pick your poison. I hope Deji heals quickly and Patson is back next week.......Overall, a really good first half and some lessons learned in the 2nd half.

We couldn't quite match the Gaels' firepower but the Lions played well in the loss. We missed Deji and as Winter noted, Evan had an off game shooting.
Godwin continues to surprise with his scoring.
Overall, I'm encouraged by the Lions team play at this point.
On to Pacific this weekend.

I know this may not be the correct thread for this post, but I do find myself cheering for Dellavedova during the NBA Finals. Great to see a 4-year WCC star making an impact.
I would say he is having the biggest impact in the NBA by a WCC player since Steve Nash.

I was thinking similar thoughts as I watched the game last night. Another somewhat unheralded WCC point guard (Nash, Stockton) is having an impact in the NBA.
I don't think Delly has the all-pro skills that Stockton and Nash had but he is certainly filling in well for Irving. He was making things tough for Curry when he was guarding him.
Now, if only AI could join the club ......

Ditto - good for Delly and the WCC. Interesting how short-handed Cleveland is holding its own. The bench is proving capable of contributing.

What is bothering the most is how I keep hearing people rip on Dellavadova for being some kind of fringe NBA player who is borderline garbage. He was WCC player of the year. I know that some never made it to the NBA (bouldin, raivio, mcconnell, bryant) but its not like the WCC is chopped liver.

For those who missed it, Delly put on quite a show last night on both ends of the court.
I don't remember him having that successful of a game in the WCC.

Let's not forget that this is the third year in a row that a WCC/SMC guard has played in the Finals. Patty Mills that last two years with the Spurs; and, as I recall he had a few prominent roles in at least a few Finals games last year. Of course, Olynik played a tangential role in this Finals by being the player involved in the Kevin Love injury. Another tangential angle, I read that Steve Kerr's eldest son - a redshirt junior - graduated from USD and will be joining Cal's team next year as a walk-on.
I also find it interesting that lately it is the SMC players - not the Gonzaga players - who have been the players who have carved out a role. I'm skeptical about whether Pangos will join the group. It is interesting and beneficial for the WCC that during a time when foreign and one and done college players are the rage of the draft it's the WCC that continues to have representation on the better NBA teams.

Delly was great last night - key to the win. And Mills got a shout out from the announcers as well.
