March Madness – One Team Year for WCC?As of Feb 2, Joe Lunardi has only one WCC team in the tourney – Gonzaga (of course) ranked #1 in the West bracket. Arizona #2 West and San Diego State #8 West are likely in. Stanford at #7 East, UC Irvine #14 Midwest, Colorado State #11 South are in right now unofficially. Top four are Gonzaga, Duke, Kentucky and Virginia. BYU has shown their vulnerability with their weak inside play despite the heroics of Haws. However, due to Haws presence on the court, BYU might get an undeserved bid also. Saint Mary’s showed the vulnerability of their thin bench last week when one of their starting guards (Bright) left the game early with an injury and they lost to the Waves. Despite the talent of their other 4 starters, the Gaels struggled the remainder of the game (and I lost my WCC bet) with their unexpected loss to Pepperdine at home. Unless the Waves or Gaels can run the tables in Vegas (or another upstart), it looks like a one-team season to me. NIT - here come our second best! espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology

I have to agree with Mr Lunardi. It's going to take a major run by BYU or St Marys, including thru the WCC tournament, for either of those schools to make it given some of the losses both teams have experienced to date.
