Pre-WCC Opponents – how are they faring?
Teams we beat:
SE Missouri State (W 76-66) – currently 10-13, conference 4-6 UC Riverside (W 66-62) – 10-12, 3-5 conference San Diego Christian (W 82-60) – 5-11, conference 0-8 DePaul (W 72-69) – 12-12, conference 6-5
Losses:
Boise State (L 77-69) – 16-6, conference 6-3 Arizona State (L 68-44) – 11-11, conference 3-6 UC Irvine (L 80-72) – 13-9, conference 6-2 - big man Ndiaye, who played in Gersten and drew NBA scouts, has been in only 7 games, starting 5; me thinks his body is too big for his health USC (L 77-61) – 9-13, conference 1-8 Northern Arizona (L 71-69) – 11-11, conference 6-3 Stanford (L 67-58) – 15-7, conference 6-4 Wichita State (L 80-53) – 20-3, conference 10-1 Nebraska (L OT 50-42) – 13-9, conference 5-5
None of our wins are over opponents who have winning records.
Five of our 8 losses are to teams with winning records.
Not impressive but apparently it prepared the Lions for the WCC season, along with Dunlap’s tutoring.
Just passing time waiting for our next game.

90045, great research indeed! Only one loss against a team w a losing record (USC). If you recall, that was the game in which Mornar only played 1 minute in the first half. Needless to say, CMD was experimenting at that time.
Go Lions!

An update on Lions90045 earlier post...
Teams we beat:
SE Missouri State currently 13-16, conference 7-9 middle of the pack Ohio Valley UC Riverside 7-7 , conference 14-14: middle of the pack Big West San Diego Christian , conference DePaul 12-18, conference 6-11: started off good in the Big East, but then has lost a bunch in a row.
Losses:
Boise State 22-7, conference 12-4 tied with San Diego St for first in the Mountain West. FYI Max Good's UNLV 7th and not headed to tourney Arizona State 15-14, conference 7-9 middle of the pack Pac-12 UC Irvine 17-11, conference 10-4 hanging in there behind surprising UC Davis, the team to beat in the Big West USC 11-18, conference 3-14 worst team in the Pac-12, Stewart averaging 5ppg Northern Arizona 16-13, conference 11-5 fourth in Big Sky, has a chance to win tourney. Sac St. leads that conference right now Stanford 18-10, conference 9-7 severely on the bubble...BYU might have knocked them down a slot with win over the Zags Wichita State 27-3, conference 17-1 avenged loss to Northern Iowa, won the conference ranked top 10 Nebraska 13-15, conference 5-11 truly disappointing considering last year, however star player Terran Pettaway revealed that mom has been fighting cancer which could explain his poor play. He is a second round NBA prospect
---
Interesting schedule that was very diverse. The LMU tourney and the Hawaii tourney really opened ourselves against some mid majors around the country. You know, if we had our famed Drew Viney-team from 2012 playing this schedule, I could have seen us with a really, really similar season to that of BYU with a real shot at the NCAAs if we had a deep run in the WCC tourney.
Okay, lets be in the present for a moment. If you want to take the feel good approach towards Dunlap you could argue that before the season, just on paper between the talent we had and the talent the other teams had, there are probably 11 games we had no chance winning. I count them as:
Nebraska, Wichita State, Stanford, Arizona State, USC, Boise State, Gonzaga (2), BYU (2), St. Mary's at home.
So subtract 11 from 30 and you get 19 games. In those 20 games we went 8-11. So basically if you subtract the strong mid-majors and the teams from the "BCS" conferences we were basically a middle of the pack .450-ish team
Also regarding the schedule, Boise State, Wichita State, Gonzaga all headed to the NCAA tourney. Stanford, Northern Arizona, UC Irvine and BYU all with chances to get in. Could have 3 -7 opponents from our schedule headed to the Big Dance. I'm going to guess 5 get in.
The Big Dance...a dream that is at least another decade away... (4 years Dunlap + 5 years of another Husak hire)

Looks like we had a really good schedule this year.
Gonzaga : Makes it to the tourney as a #2 seed and gets to play the first two rounds in Seattle. They have no excuse to get to the Sweet 16. They play in Duke's bracket for a chance at the Final Four
BYU: Gets in as one of the "last Four"..they play Ole Miss in the play-in round in Dayton. They are in the West, so if somehow they made a run to the Sweet 16 they could play at Staples Center.
UC Irvine: I did not think they would win the Big West, but they made a nice run and are dancing. They play Louisville in the first round.
Wichita State: Seeded a little low as a #7 seed, basically the committee viewed them as a #28 team.
Boise State: We had them on our home court. They will also play in the play-in round against Dayton on their home floor.
None of our Pac 12 opponents made it.
