Pepperdine Waves – Part II
Next up is our final WCC season game versus our arch rival Pepperdine Waves, who have a winning season underway with a 16-12 record, 9-8 in conference play. They did lose this week to the Dons 56-54 (minor consolation for our loss Thursday), who are on a 3-game win streak.
We’ll need all our guns to play a competitive game in Malibu but a win is definitely possible. It would be nice to “limp” into Vegas on an upnote!
Both teams should be rested and perhaps healed as neither of us play until next Saturday.
Gametime: Saturday, Feb 28, 3 pm in Malibu. TV: TWCSN (TheW.tv out of area)
Go Lions!

In case anyone is interested, there is no line yet on the game. Vegas oddsmakers are wary of Payne's status - he could swing the line several points depending on whether he plays or not. Right now, we may be playing for 9th place as Pacific won their 4th WCC game last night. Go Lions!

Our recently emerged key players were hardly visible in our previous loss last December. For example Humphries didn't score in almost 30 minutes and Godwin, Marin, and Matt were in the low single digits; Evan and Saime scored 15 and 11 respectively. The 9.5 spread is as as good as any guess can be; however, with Evan healthy, if he is, we should close the gap. GO LIONS!!!

Down 2 at half after having a 9 point lead. We are mixing up our defenses and getting Waves to turnover. Deji can't buy a basket of any kind. Marin started off like gangbusters something like 8 points in first few minutes but was benched for the something like the last 10 minutes, hope he wasn't injured. They are giving Matt no room for his shot. Humphries playing great but still passes up mid range open looks.
Usually the first minutes after halftime dictate the rest of the game so we'll soon know if it's either going to continue to be a contest or if the Waves will pull away.

husky - we now know how the second half went.
Positives - if they make an "Ironman III" movie, David Humphries must get the lead role. He can finish inside and plays great all around ball. Godwin's motor never stops and I think he is playing as well as he can but you see the difference between him and Stacey Davis who has natural basketball skills. Our hustling defense gives opponents fits but it takes so much energy that we wear ourselves down with our thin bench.
Negative - we have very little offense and you can't win games without making baskets.
Right now my energy level is low as is the bulk of the board. This disappointing season will end next weekend, perhaps Friday, and we can start looking forward to an improved season next year.
Recruiting will be a key to success.
