WiseOne - I'm not sure who you are criticizing: the posters or the coaches? I never played high level basketball unless you count college intramurals. I haven't attended a full practice under Dunlap - his practices are closed to the public. I did attend some under Good until they were closed also. I don't enjoy talking bad about the players, in fact, I do not do so unless there are some factual comments that reflect team pla, like "he shot 2 for 15 in the game."
Sounds like you are (bottom line) anti-Dunlap? And pro-players? Then you are in the majority of posters as it stands now.

Lionforlife – I don’t agree with all of waterboys evaluations of players or condone his negative opinion of last season’s players but I sense he is close to the team and knows things not generally known by fans. For example, Waterboy wrote: “Even Payne is gone of his own volition. Siame and a couple of others were asked to leave for various reasons, all of it in their control and they blew it.” Read more: lmulions.proboards.com/thread/2542/loyolan-article?page=4#ixzz3UydE0vnqWow, Siame was asked to leave? Who would have figured that? He looked like one bright spot on the team and had potential not realized yet – after all he was in his first year of DI ball. It is one example of waterboy’s “knowledge” that I find helpful in trying to understand what’s afoot with the Lions. Husky – carping about coaches and their decisions is still fair game indeed. Like they say in the House of Representatives: “The members are requested to direct their comments to the Chair” (i.e., not directly at the other members). Generally, it’s more fun and civilized that way.

Welcome Wise One. Hope you stick around. Rest assured that I meet all your criteria for "knowledgeable" I need to keep playing little sir echo for a moment. Not-with-standing the Siame and Wyatt asked to leave rather than going on their own scoop (which only makes Dunlap seem even dumber) Waterboy is pretty much just full of it. He has this "Coach is great because he's the coach" narrative. Then provides erroneous generalizations to make his points, or in this case his lack of points
He goes on about how great Dunlaps offensive sets were and how open the players were but they simply could not hit them. Those "sets" must have been when we screwed around in the back court until either the shot clock ran down or we forced up a poor shot. But his punch line is (our players were responsible for) "a multitude of less than 20% - 25% shooting nights". Waterboy, forget the multitude, just find a single game in which we shot under 25%. Hell we were bad, but not that bad - and it was the coaches fault not the sum total of the team.
He probably does have a 5 year contract but he is not going to last unless he stop's blaming everything on his players and takes responsibility for his own role in things.

There's a bit of hypocrisy being thrown about here. On the one hand, Turner is being praised for his five-year plan coming to fruition at Irvine yet after one year Dunlap is already a failure in many eyes. Is Dunlap not entitled to the same patience? We need to remember here that this isn't some great team that he inherited. Good proved how abysmal he was with recruits living up to their potential. To use a baseball analogy, LMU is a pitcher who kept getting lit up start after start and this hire is Tommy John surgery finally being performed instead of toughing out more starts with a ligament tear. It's going to take a lot of rehab but there's more promise than the proven failure that we've experienced.

pepbander I appreciate your team spirit but we lost Gabe Levin (look for him to be a force next season), Cartwright PG who is dancing as we speak and Stewart - a starter and up and coming talent for USC when Dunlap took over. I like your defense of the home guard but most critics speak the truth here. Looking forward to your contributions as the upcoming seasons shape up.

Pepbander,
Strongly doubt Turner's first year at Irvine was much like Dunlaps here. But clearly he's going to get his chance. Based on what we've seem so far however success doesn't seem very likely. If he manages to turn things around you can be sure I will be one of the first to repent. In the meantime doubting a coaches capabilities in no way means I'll support the team any less. If anything I'll respect them even more knowing they are putting up someone like Dunlap.

Waterboy sounds like he is Dunlap! Funny thing is he just might be! People need to get their facts right before starting RUMORS! Patson was not asked to leave he DEFINITELY asked for his release! Some people are here talking about how good Dunlap's offense is and how players can't make shots...How about you go back and watch the games and tell me how effective his offense or defense was!Or the countless different schemes he introduced EVERY game through out the year. And so u know there were multiple people at his practices everyday! I praise the players for all they endured this year and the results they got from it(Especially the Seniors who's last year of college basketball was used as Dunlap's experiment and "Let me see if I'm still good at college coaching" year). I wish them the best. As for those that just come on this board and just talk talk talk (With no basketball knowledge or FACTS) Stick to your day job!
