I thought it might be useful to open a thread on the WCC pre-season for comments. Here is how things stand as of Friday afternoon.
West Coast Standings
TEAM CONF OVERALL Saint Mary's 0-0 3-0 Gonzaga 0-0 4-1 BYU 0-0 3-1 Loyola Marymount 0-0 3-2 Portland 0-0 3-2 San Francisco 0-0 3-2 Pepperdine 0-0 2-4 Pacific 0-0 1-3 San Diego 0-0 0-4 Santa Clara 0-0 0-6
OK so Santa Clara with an 0-6 record and San Diego with an 0-4 record are the weak sisters? Perhaps not after Santa Clara took top 25 Arizona to overtime before losing by one basket on Thursday.
The records don’t reflect the quality of the opponents and its very early but it is one snapshot of the WCC.

Brownridge was a one-man show for Santa Clara against Arizona, scoring 44 points. Pugh missed two free throws with five seconds left in a tie game in regulation, otherwise the Broncos may have been victorious.

Santa Clara looked really bad their first 4 games, losing to bad teams. USD has definitely been the worst, don't know about pacific, Portland, or USF. Portland tips off against Colorado state in a few minutes so it will be interesting to see how they match up.

On a neutral court in Texas, Colorado State led wire-to-wire against Portland, beating them by 16.
Since LMU was trailing by 3 points with under 4 minutes remaining, at Colorado State, we definitely win that comparison.
USD might be truly awful.

Encouraging - thanks for the link.
However, the ease with which both UCLA and USC handled CSUN shows the program has some ways to go to be really competitive against the top teams in Division I.
I do think we can give USF and Pepperdine a good contest when we meet. The Lions seem to improve a bit each week with new guys stepping up. Our deep bench is a real asset.

USD was up 31-13 at half and ended up winning a close one at San Diego state, very impressive win.

Still not being respected in all the analytical rankings (like kenpom), but conference play can't come fast enough. Hopefully brown, Haney, and Jacko can emerge as a more consistent big 3. I guess tuach is officially out the rotation, which is surprising considering humpheries is done, and because spiers hasn't been great the last couple games. Hopefully he gets another chance though, he's too lengthy and athletic to not at least be able to be a good defensive player once he understands all the rotations and have a similar role to McClendon.

They say Haney is a junior, but he is a RS soph right? I believe he still has 2 years of eligibility after this.

I believe you are correct golions. They sometimes list the players academic status rather than their BB eligibility status. Jacko likewise has two more years of BB after this season.

Haney is a SOPH but Jacko is a junior. Looking at his Chaffey College info, they clearly reference him playing for 2 years. Either way, we are lucky to have both.

I thought Jacko elected to sit out last year to concentrate on his studies, thereby saving his year of eligibility.
Haney played one year before coming to LMU, giving him 3 years' eligibility counting this year.

It's confusing. Read his bio on the LMU website. It seems to reference both his soph and frosh years at Chafee College and includes stats for both years. I hope I am wrong.

Sounds like you're right. So, we get Jacko for this year and next. Sure hope CMD is beating the bushes for a couple of big inside guys.
