The Lions have a quick turn-around game vs BYU in Provo Thursday night. This one is on national TV - ESPNU - which may motivate the Lions (and the Cougars?) even more.
In addition, after thumping the Lions with a big second half in Gersten, the Cougars turn around and lose to the Waves in Malibu - losing hold on 3rd place in the WCC in the process.
BYU - lose to Portland, beat the Lions - lose to Pepperdine, ____ (fill in the blank) (to) the Lions.
The Lions got some confidence with their win over USD - as bad a win as it was, it did represent 3 wins in the latest 4 outings.
And there will probably be lots of film time on how we let BYU outscore us by 20 points in the second half of the Gersten game (basically stop giving the Cougars the ball when you are on offense).
Gametime: Thursday, January 28 at 8 pm in Provo. TV: ESPNU. Video: ESPN.go - sorry ESPN has the video locked up.

BYU is coming off an awful shooting performance and they are finally returning home after 2 weeks of being on the road. In there only 2 home games on the season the scored 97 vs Santa Clara and 102 at USF. Our defense is not very good, BYU is due for a hot shooting game, they are desperate for a win, and they are happy to be home. I would guess that BYU scores somewhere in the high 90s, which means we probably lose by 20+. Our defense isn't good enough to make a good offense play bad, until our defense gets better we just have to hope BYU, Saint Marys, and Gonzaga have off shooting nights when we play them.

lmu2015 - It would be nice to disagree with you, but I fear you may be right. BYU has a lot of options, they enjoy playing in the Marriott Center and our defense is not very good. We allow way too many open looks at the basket. I know our guard defense won the San Diego game, but the Torero's are not even a mediocre team. Tutu did a nice job of disrupting the Torero's and his active defense made the difference in the game, but that singular effort does not equate to a good team defense.

But, but - what if we play the whole game like our first half vs BYU at Gersten? Is entropy against us?

I'll use the same argument I used before the first BYU game. Our defense has to be disruptive. We have to get the Cougars out of sync. And obviously shooting 80% would be helpful.

Lions are 15 point underdogs tomorrow.
The Lions have covered three straight road games.

I just keep imaging BYU running us out of the gym and winning by 30, once they start hitting shots at home there is no stopping them. I actually had a dream where we were only down by single digits with a couple minutes left and I woke up happy with that. I will be less interested in the score and more focused on the defensive adjustments we make, and to see if Mornar, Haney, Spiers, and Herman can not get pushed around so much and toughen up on the boards.

It's on espnnews as of now, your not missing anything. We are shooting bricks, banging shots off the backboard. Not moving the ball, and as I said we look like a middle school team with our shots. It's awful.

We are very lucky to only be down 14, team looks like they are half asleep and not focused at all.

I don't get the offensive scheme. Someone on this board the other day characterized it as complicated. I'll agree that it's complicated, but it's a lot of passing that doesn't generate penetration or getting Cougars out of position.
And bricks from the 3-point line don't help.

Right now the offense is very out of sync and it looks like 5 guys who just learned it yesterday. This is the worst the offense has looked since Irvine.

I think it has more to do with the temerity of those executing the offense than design. When you get you advantage you have to be aggressive and take it.
