Exciting? All of his offers were from low level D1 programs. If he had much potential, I would expect interest from at least some mid level programs.

Thanks Lions Roar - nice video. Son of an NFLer? I think Dameane Douglas has a lot of room to grow both up and out. May be a "sleeper" or "steal"if he has a big Senior year at his new school. I wonder if the thumping by Dameane Douglas's squad was a factor in LaVar withdrawing his youngest from Chino Hills to home school?

Watching the new lions practicing for the first time made me very very sad. Very few of these guys are actual D1 talent.
So embarassing

And also Dunlaps drills are equivalent to my JV days. 0 creativity and “textbook” fundamental basketball. What a joke

I think Haney is a solid D1 player. Probably could play off the bench for a PAC12 team. Would start and potentially star in the big west/big sky/southern/mid major and any mid range WCC program.
Petr is a low major player. Just not consistent enough.
Gipson has shown flashes of D1 athleticism and ability
Jeffrey McClendon is not Matthias is not Dylan causwell is not Joe Quintana is definitely not Mikail Simmons is definitely not James Batemon is not Zafir Williams is borderline Eli Scott is borderline

I've not seen any of the new players. I haven't seen the team since the WCC Tournament last season. But, I do find it interesting that most everyone was excited with the signing of this recruiting class and lauding Reggie Morris for his role in their recruiting. And, lamenting Reggie's departure. Now, all doom and gloom before they've even officially practiced for a week. Pardon me if I think the current evaluations say more about the bias of the the evaluators than those being evaluated.

Longtime - I agree that these recent comments probably belie the bias of the individuals commenting.
However, I think they are right. I've not seen the team practice this year but based upon what I read and saw last year, I failed to see where any of this year's recruits deserved the excitement being expressed on this blog. I think they were all "decent" high school players. But that's a far cry from quality D1 capability. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't expect to see much happening in Gersten this year to get excited about.

the reality is whether its coming from biased people or not. our program has not improved. and our head coach was given a contract extension. husk is an idiot, and dunlap is an @$#.
our program will be the same mediocre, subpar program, it has been for at least the next 5-8 years at this rate. Let's have fun everybody.

Well here is the thing regarding the two new guys
from seeing Eli Scott in person he is about 6-3, no way 6-5, unless I've grown two inches (maybe since I lost some weight I stand up straighter..do I have an NBA future?)
We saw that he had some monster stats, and I did get to see Chino HS play once, but their local competition was inferior until they played at CIF. The thing with last year's Chino brand of basketball was just the up and down nature and no defense all shooting and scoring lends itself to inflated numbers. I don't know if any of you keep up, but in fact the guy with the most monster numbers and the greatest scoring threat on the team has been LiAngelo Ball, and he will be lucky to get more than bench minutes for UCLA. He has maybe a future in Europe if he sticks with basketball. I fear the same with Scott.
Next, Zafir Williams is listed at like 6-5, but over 250lbs?? That is not a good look. I think his game is kind of predicated as on his size, so you have be a little concerned that at the short height, he can still play his game against a decent conference like the WCC.
Sadly, Ryse Williams may have ended up as the best one of the bunch.
But yes, my expectations have definitely taken a hit on the incoming recruits. Yeah and you're right about Quintana. He could star at APU, or Chapman, maybe Cal Poly Pomona, solid DII programs in his area.

zafir i believe fell out of shape over the summer. hopefully he gets back on track. He doesnt have the explosive athleticism or length you would hope for in a D1 big, but my hope is that he has the tenacity and desire that I thik i saw when I last saw him play.
eli, like i mentioned is a fringe D1 player, was definitely a beneiciary of a "system" at Chino
joe, i like he kid as I think he is a good person but skills wise, body wise, is just not a D1 player at all....
i hope i get proved wrong but i doubt it unfortunately.

I think it might be a bit premature to deem a kid not a division one player before he's ever played a game. NOt discounting your opinions on what you see, but I'm not sure watching a freshman practice in the Fall is fair to cast that kind of judgement. I've not seen them in person, but what I've seen on tape of those two makes me think y'all are being a bit premature. Scott looks like he absolutely has the physical talents to be a D1 player. Williams was clearly one of the most dominant players in California. To be honest, the idea that a kid who averaged 28 points and 16 rebounds for Long Beach Poly couldn't be a useful in the WCC seems kinda ludicrous. Batemon was rated as one of the top 50 JuCO players in the country last year. I have seen Gipson and McClendon and I just entirely disagree with idea they're not D1 players. We shall see. Let's at least giver these kids a chance.

I don't understand the rush to judgment either. Many of us have made statements here last season, during the recruiting and signing period as well as the early offseason about the importance of this incoming class. Let's see them over a representative period before weighing in. Why the rush to preemptive condemnation?

We won't really be able to judge this class until their Junior or Senior years. At the WCC level it is, for the most part, uncommon to even get contributions from a Freshman. But this year we are in a situation where we need Freshman to be major contributors, if not starters, but that shouldn't lead to more criticism. This class has(or i guess had?) high expectations coming in, as everyone was praising Reggie Morris for getting these guys, we should at least see how they progress over the course of this year before we make judge. I already know that people will be quick to criticize the fact that Eli can't shoot, and Zafir is undersized, Gipson lacks ball handling and ideal size for the SF etc... Lets just remember that they are Freshman, we are not Kentucky, and when they have a bad game early in the season (and look like Freshman), lets remember that they hopefully have three more years to develop into players that can lead our team to a level so we compete with Gonzaga and Saint Marys.
