Broad shouldered Isaiah Pinero 6’7” 215 forward from Portland State will give everyone in the WCC fits this year.

I didn't watch the game and I know USD might have one of the best defenses in the country, but Colorado did shoot 26%... I assume they missed quite a few open shots. Either way, great win for USD and the conference, looks like they may h ave broken the glass ceiling this year, I know I will be rooting for them over BYU for that third spot (assuming we don't get it of course).
Edit: Forgot to mention that USDs four best players are all Juniors... They will be a legitimate contender next year (may even get some votes to be #2 in the WCC preseason poll next year if they keep this up).

Here are my observations: 1) Coach Smith has a great idea of his team's identity this year. The team is lacking with a solid inside game so they play a run n gun type of style. They shoot, early and often. 2) They consistently run a double pick at the top and his guys run and run and run and work to get space to shoot. Believe me, they CAN shoot. At least 3 of their guys are lethal shooters from anywhere on the floor. 3) They also run plenty of high pick and rolls/pick and pop AGAIN to give these guys the room to operate and shoot. 3) Coach Smith is ALWAYS encouraging his guys. Always positive and you can tell the team is really rooting for each other and the success of the TEAM. I don't think I saw him yell or get frustrated once in the game. 4) Regarding defense I saw them play a man defense for most of the game and the guys aren't the most athletic but their communication is impeccable. always talking always moving. 5) I think talent level wise, the Lions have more of it BUT coaching and identity wise Lamont Smith definitely has a hand up. He knows who his team is. 6) frustrating to see the lions compared to a team like USD.

Thanks for the input NBD, looking forward to watching them play. As for them making the tourney, I don't think they have a chance, a win vs Saint Marys would only knock Saint Marys out. Our best chance of a second bid is if BYU beats Utah and then goes maybe 16-2 in conference play. Because as of now, Gonzaga is the only team in our conference with a win vs a team who is expected to be in the tourney (Texas), and even they are probably on the bubble. There is just no way our conference can be a two + bid league when we combine for 0-1 wins vs other teams in the tourney.

I find it annoying that when a WCC game happens to be on ESPN, like Gonzaga last evening, it can be blacked out in my area and I have to watch on TheW.tv on the computer. Is this due to TheW's deal with WCC games? I have Spectrum - is it a Spectrum thing? Women's volleyball is fine but doesn't really replace a Gonzaga Basketball game.

WCC play is right around the corner. I have a feeling league play is going to be a really battle for all teams. There is a more parity this year than seasons past.

santa clara is really bad. San Jose State, which is a constant bottom feeder program, beat the SC on the Broncos home floor.

More importantly, the Zags lost to a good but not great San Diego State team, 72-70. It was in San Diego but the zags still should’ve won.
The Toreros are the only WCC team that has had a truly successful OOC season.

I chose not to watch the Zags game as I was sure they would win. That is a surprise!

Gonzaga is big, I think our only chance of getting two bids is if Gonzaga dominates the regular season but doesn’t win the conference tourney, or if Gonzaga and then either Saint Marys or BYU have no more than 2 losses in conference and then meet in the conference tourney. Saint Mary’s SOS is just pathetic, if they want to be considered a tournament contender and good program they need to start playing people.

From what I’ve seen, Cal may be the worst team in the PAC-12
