Congrats Lions--- I can't stand Dunlap.. think he's an awful coach, think Pepperdine is trending up where we are trending nowhere, but I am still an LMU alum and i will always root for the W vs the Waves. Puck Fepperdine!

Tremendous atmosphere and win. However, I have a bad feeling this rivalry is gonna be pretty lopsided in the Waves favor in years to come.

Trash talking? Lol!!! With a home victory over an underdog PEPPERDINE (and a season SPLIT)...with PEPPERDINE? Dude...11 teams have beaten Pepperdine already this season! A team that starts a 6-5 post(which is TEN (10) inches smaller than Markusson). We're talking 'bout a rebuilding, first yr coached...PEPPERDINE? LOL! How bout you just wish the kids well and hope they continue to compete with the hope of actually becoming RELEVANT in the college basketball world and becoming the subject of compliments and conversations BEYOND this blog! When failure and mediocrity is the NORM, I guess those that live in that world are EASILY impressed...Enjoy!đđ

Really happy for the players and the program that we defeated the Waves.
Fantastic to see Douglas on the court late in the game and come through. I do feel his development is very important as the season continues.

Bdawg, your vitriol is transparent. If your kid, we all know who that is, was scoring 20ppg right now on this team, you would be not attacking any positivity on this board and would be the happiest Florida panhandle basketball expert in America. Move on bro. He did, or did not get screwed by Dunlap, is according to his peeps transferring to a high major (I will bet you all the white sand in Destin he does not), where he will get the green light to show why he was such a 2 star steal the Lions just never understood. I have been highly critical of much over the years, fancy myself to be a realist, but if people simply want to congratulate their alma matter on a rivalry win, your commentary is out of bounds and getting tired.

I guess Iâm not Allenâs father after all haha. You guys have to stop with all this paternity debate stuff. Letâs just move on from it. Allen was a talented kid who just didnât fit Dunlapâs coaching style. Wish him the best. Now letâs focus on LMU

Great atmosphere and great win. Playing rotation has really tightened up. Wins like that are the type that are great for the program. Quintana really played well, as did Eli, Douglas and Markusson....Coaching aside, morale aside, personalities aside, that was a really good win against our rival and trust me powers that be sat there and watched that crowd and what appeared to be lots of enthusiasm from a pretty young talented core group of players returning next season. All of a sudden the tragedy of losing Cam Allen, or the argument of LMU being a one trick pony, is less valid, if it ever was. Good job and the team should enjoy the victory. Uhh less valid? No it doesnât. The university went all in to get fans to the game. They will have to continue their huge effort to draw fans. Barely beating a team that just put itself together by 4 at home after getting dominated by the same team on the road is actually cause for concern. As an alum and fan that gets to as many games as I can itâs always great to beat a rival but was no âprogram â changing victory. Thatâs really silly.

Be careful slblions08...any expression of "critical thought or analysis" is strictly forbidden here. You will be labeled a disgruntled parent or relative...lol! The very people who call for coach firings, demean the program and "personally" bash LMU student athletes (by name) for their perceived lack of talent, have the hypocritical nerve to call the critical analysis of others "out of bounds"! Agree to disagree and keep it moving. This is a BLOG folks...a public forum for debate, dialogue and FREE expression, whatever your point of view..it should never be stifled or silenced. I certainly wont be...NEVER!! Yet, as a coach and media professional, there are certain ethical boundaries I adhere to concerning my referencing student/athletes! In the end, ALL the LMU kids are getting free educations for playing a game they love! What's "tired" are the bipolar commentary that praises the program and players after a win...then the same very same people completely destroy the program and players after a loss! Deal with and address the "substance" of the commentary and reality of the program's existence. I guess only CERTAIN individuals here are free to express themselves here without being personally labeled and confronted! Back to your comment...slblions08. Increasing the crowd on a consistent basis is more important than many think for the players and their morale. However you slice it, only 1% of all the high school basketball players in the country play D-1 college basketball. However, the D-1 environment and experience for the players at LMU has been lacking energy and support. The program is mired by poor attendance. Currently, there are close to 30 (THIRTY) D-II programs that have higher attendance figures and LARGER crowds than LMU basketball and this is the WCC!

in my opinion, this game was important for the following reason:
I live in San Francisco where the only time the Lions are ever shown on TV is when they play either Saint Mary's or Gonzaga, meaning that every time the Bay Area has been able to watch the lions on their TV (in at least the last few years) is when they have been losing by 20+ points. As my Dad said, "This is the first time i have seen the Lions win a game on TV" (he started watching my Freshman year, which was the 2011-12 season). This statement probably also holds true for the majority of the students at the game, as most of them only go when playing Gonzaga or Saint Marys, meaning the only time most students watch LMU play is when we get killed. In summary, this is the first time in a while the Lions won a game where people were actually watching, meaning those people are more likely to watch again. For a school like LMU that struggles with attendance, getting a win with a crowd is an important first step. Evident by the players body language after the game, this is also a moral boost for the players.
So yes, last nights game was not a "Program Changer" by any means, but it was not a meaningless victory either. Lions have a long way to go before being relevant, and i personally don't think CMD can take us there, but a .500 record in league and a 20 win season would sure do a lot for the moral of the program going forward.

You have a valid point. I have a young granddaughter who says, âWhy do you root for the Lions? They always lose!â
I can tell her. âThere was a day ....â. but it pretty much falls on deaf ears.

I live in SoCal and a lot of my friends' kids have gone through college selection process in the last 5+ years and a weirdly inordinate amount of them chose to go to Gonzaga and the main reason their parents said they chose to go their was because of student enthusiasm around the basketball team. Attending exciting sports events is the last reason a kids chooses to go to LMU. You can say the same thing about Pepperdine or USD. It's no secret that SoCal is pretty darn apathetic when it comes to sports attendance but SoCal fans will follow a winner. More than anything else, its a chicken and egg situation at LMU. Lackluster performance means lackluster attendance means lackluster recruiting. It is a very tough cycle to break and it won't happen overnight. Winning some of the higher profile games where the students come out for a luck is hugely important. You only get one chance to make a first impression. I am confident that Craig Pintens will do all he can to get students to come and have a look. When they do, the Lions will have to rise to the occasion. Our success of failure over the next month will determine whether we take a small step towards cultivating student passion around the team/program or whether we are back at square 1 next November. These league games are dogfights and are good viewing for us diehards but the students will need a string of Ws to get them to look away from their iphones for a minute.

LMU has so many positives to offer with the location, beautiful campus, a great conference and a great academic reputation. Why there is so much student and fan apathy is beyond me. In sports...everyone does like a winner!
