Pumpfake, couldn't agree more. Having visited friends at Gonzaga, I witnessed firsthand pre-games and even parties put on hold because a basketball game was going into double OT...and it wasn't even a Gonzaga game! LMU will never have that culture (imagine two Greek life organizations delaying their Thursday mixer because the LMU/Santa Clara game hadn't finished... lol). I was at the game on Saturday (first home game in a few years) and commented at one point "our guys must be pissed that they only play in front of a real crowd once a year". However, that's not to say that improvement is impossible. We can build our own type of culture, making games about the event to draw in the casual students. I'd love more than one sidebar in an email to the alumni about the tailgate, but the tailgate was legitimately fun. I'm happy to hear that Pintens took note of what worked this weekend.
As far as basketball goes, good to see Douglas playing crunch time, good to see defensive adjustments from last Pepperdine game, good to see JB5 facilitating at a high level when pepp packed the paint. Didn't like Zafir's body language. Didn't like Eli yelling at his teammates, but he did play well. McClendon looked reborn on defense.
I'm not sure what to make of the big man rotation, but it's obvious we have too many guys. Eli and Markusson are key players, but Dame should be playing some 4. I actually do like Jordan Bell's game, I think he defends well and stretches the court with his shooting, but he's a pure 5 against most teams until he gets quicker. Hermann is also a pure 5, and I couldn't believe the 45 seconds he played before committing a foul in transition and getting yanked. He's a guy that belongs on the court and offers something different. I'm just not sure where those minutes should come from. Zafir, I believe, is behind those guys as a big.
Go Lions.

I like Jordan Bell's game too and think he will contribute more and more. Petr has a lot to offer with his size and athleticism but he: 1) rushes his (easy) shots, 2) seems to decide what he is going to do before he gets the ball and forces shots and passes instead of just letting things happen naturally 3) plays defense with his head on a swivel. He really has a hard time keeping his eye on his man and ball at the same time. THis causes late rotations and fouls. He should be a force on D and he's not.
As for Zafir, he lacks Petr's athleticism, but he: 1) has good hands, 2) scores garbage buckets with his hustle 3) and generally plays within himself. 4) gets exposed when quicker players face him up on the wing or when bigger players post him up and go over him. His minutes seem predicated on matchups because he's too small to handle some of the bigger post players on some opponents. He's never going to be a star but he's a lunch bucket guy who gives us decent minutes. I wish he had Petr's athleticism or Petr had his composure. I

pumpfake Agree on most points, as I feel that Zafir takes some wild floaters (although he's been making them...skill or small sample? I'm not sure). I wonder whether Petr would settle down a bit if he knew he'd have more regular minutes every night, but I worry that he'll never really get those minutes, so he'll continue to force things in the few minutes he plays. Bell has been better lately, starting to show how he racked up those Drew League numbers this summer. @90045, that's a shame. We will have so many perimeter needs without Batemon/McClendon and no Allen to replace them.

We have two slots left so I’m expecting two guards with at least one PG

If you’re reading Pintens, the best way to get student enthusiasm for the games is to let the ROAR be what it used to be. An “unofficial” off campus drinking organization. We were a horrible team a decade ago but we had good student attendance for most games. We just had to be drunk to watch the quality of basketball.

I wore my 2006-2007 shirt to the game sat

Hey SLB you SOB (kidding sort of), why you Lion? Where in any of my positivity did I reference the recent home win over Pepperdine as a "program changing victory." Cmon brother, stay with me. I watched the Pepperdine game. Kids played well, kids played hard and beat their rival. You got to be one really negative mofo to find fault with anyone lauding the optics of that game. Who cares how they got the as**es in the seats. They had a great, enthusiastic crowd and the Lions won the game. Trust me, we will all very soon have plenty of reason to question the "direction of the program" here very soon as I can guarantee you we are about to go on a reality check bender starting tomorrow night. Remember I said that. However, people should check their agendas at the door, which is really hard for parents and relatives on this board to do. Look I am not criticizing them either. If I felt a coach screwed my literal kid, adopted kid, or just a kid I have a vested interest in, I would spit venom every chance I can. But when something good happens, it really isn't going to kill anyone to say "nice job Lions"....That can be accomplished without endorsing the current regime and really the kids should get credit when credit is due.
