BYU Cougars – Part II
Record: W 16 – L 10 WCC: W 8 – L 3
Leading Scorers:
Yoeli Childs 21.0 T.J. Haws 17.0 Jahshire Hardnett 9.7 Zac Seljaas 7.3 Connor Harding 6.7 Nick Emery 6.1
The Cougars WCC losses were to Saint Mary’s, Gonzaga and USF. They have won 4 of their last 5 WCC games and defeated the Lions 67-49 in Provo which included one of the worst second halves in Lions’ play this season. The subs got good minutes in that game and actually closed the gap in the score.
I hate it when the opponent has more fans in the stands than the Lions but that can easily happen with the Cougars in town.
Gametime: Saturday, Feb 16 at 1 pm in Gersten. Video: Spectrum Sportsnet.

Lions are 1 point underdogs. If they play like the Zags contest, this one is winnable. Need to control that pest Haws.

Lions need a win today to have a 20 win record in the regular season. I expect some form of post season play this year.

If you can’t run an offense to get someone an open 3 and you don’t have guys who can make 3s you ain’t winning sh*t in the WCC or really in any league in this day in age. These scoring droughts are pathetic. We can’t get an open shot to save our life. That’s sooo great we played competitive against Gonzaga and BYU. 0-2 is 0-2. We suck

Surprised nbd and slb have not chimed in yet! That was a game we should have won. We were outscored by 14 at home in the second half Is this one on coach?

Pretty terrible game management We have good kids, decent talent, and a horrendous coach. No hope for the future

I missed the game so I can’t really critique the game. But I reviewed the play-by-play and what stuck out like a sore thumb was the 4-1/2 minute stretch late in the game where the Lions didn’t even get a shot.
I’ve seen lots of games where a team suffers thru a 4-5 minute scoring drought. It doesn’t seem like it should happen, and it’s frustrating when it happens to you, but it happens.
I don’t understand how a team goes that long late in a close game without getting a shot. With all the timeouts in today’s game, CMD couldn’t manufacture even one shot?!

Just watched the game after recording it. Haven’t been this frustrated or upset after a game in a really long time. Completely controlled the game for about 33-35 minutes and then just absolutely wilted down the stretch.
Maybe we were tired, and a three-hour practice yesterday, if true, doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, what a shame because the guys played so well and so hard this week to not be rewarded with a victory. What a shame.
And regarding not getting a shot for so long, we have a seven-foot, three-inch center who is drawing fouls on his post ups and then we stop feeding him. Instead we give him the ball near the three-point line and ask him to try to make passes to players cutting, or high-low passes. Bizarre!

I too only saw the game recorded. But yeah not much to add. Dunlap routinely gets out coached at halftime. I think our guys get hyped when the crowd finally shows and that energy carries our guys until that adrenaline wears out and it’s crunch time. At crunch time the coach needs to elevate his guys either through tactical decisions or an emotional boost. Dunlap provides neither so this happens.
