I’m certainly a long way from being a CMD fan, but he has definitely had his teams playing at their peak late in the season. He deserves credit for properly preparing his team for these last two games, and executing solid coaching during the games. So, good job Coach.
By locking down (I believe) 5th place, the Lions have finished the regular season higher than I expected. On the other hand, a loss today and depending on the results of tonight’s other games, they easily could have finished in 8th place. So I don’t exactly consider the season to be a stunning success.
The guys played well today. Simmons, Williams and Hermann particularly deserve call outs for their efforts. But this was Batemon’s game ... as can be said for many of our wins this year. I don’t know if CMD was good or lucky to get Batemon, but his performance has been stellar this year. He controls the game, looks for his teammates and knows when he has to take over. He is truly one of the best players we’ve had in Gersten since the days of you know who. CMD and the Lions will miss him next year. ... so will I.

Nice win, but frankly one that we should have gotten. USF have really fallen off since their first loss to Gonzaga. Dunlap has the team playing well, and his defenses have been giving the conference teams fits after giving up far too many open threes in non-conference play, but I absolutely do not see this as a coronation of our head coach.

Lions shot 58% for the game, which is remarkable. Over half of scoring in the paint, which I like. No foul shots for the Dons in the first half, in fact, LMU had only two fouls late in the half and took several intentionals to slow the Dons' offense in the last seconds of the half. Not sure whats happening with the Dons - their play is off in their closing games. McCarthy, one of their bigs, got only 7 minutes vs the Lions but he did blow 3 lay ups under the net. Maybe the Dons' coach is losing his magic?

I saw one rumor that Smith is going to Penn State? Maybe the prospect of his leaving has the Dons down?

It is a bit hard to figure out the Dons. Their OOC was a bit of an illusion because their schedule was worse than ours. However once Conference play began they were looking pretty good. They’ve had some good games and the bad ones. They have some good players. They have a PG who can control the game. Like a lot of teams they do live and die by the three. Yesterday, they died. They’re also lousy from the FT line. Those vulnerabilities seem to be enough for teams to capitalize on them like the Lions did yesterday.
It looks like he teams could likely meet again in the WCC tournament. Lions will need to play well.
