The LMU website is offering first call for tickets for any post season play to season ticket holders. Sounds like a post season tourney is in the works! Good for the Lions.

That would be great news. Last time we played in one of these we gave Damian Lillard a loss in his final collegiate game.
That said, I’m a little worried that the WCC will not have a team in the NIT, and I fear BYU, and possibly USF and USD, may be asked ahead of us for either of the two other tournaments. I’m not sure if I can envision four teams from our conference in the CIT and CBI.
Hope we make it!

I received the same email and it would be great to see LMU play in the post season. I find it difficult for LMU to make the post season ahead of USD, USF and BYU. We will see.

The NIT takes the second place team in a conference, or if the second team made it, then they take the next best available. I think that BYU may still sneak into the NIT because they draw a large fan base. But that is most likely the only team. San Francisco finished in a higher seed so I bet they go to the CIT which is the next best tourney. The CBI most likely is where LMU ends up, maybe along with San Diego. I've noticed through social media that the players are still practicing somewhat so I have a feeling there is at least one more game left. The Saint Mary's upset of Gonzaga was a big win for the conference. They showed up in a national way once again showing they are a good program (saving their somewhat of a downward trend) and it woke up Gonzaga. Plus we get 2 teams in the tourney. And it moves everyone up one slot.

And money for the league and LMU! That is not how it works..
The CBI and the CIT are both "pay to play" tournaments. The CBI costs about $40,000 to host a game, while the CIT is about $25,000. You lose money, unless you are making that back in ticketing sales and sponsorships which is highly unlikely.

I think he was referencing the fact that St. Mary’s and Gonzaga are both in the NCAA tournament, which is more money for each of our conference members, including us, which actually will cover the costs to be in the CBI or CIT.
Thanks Gaels!

Thanks Gaels! That is not true either. Remember when Gonzaga threatened to leave the WCC? Part of their negotiations was to do away with revenue sharing.. what they do in the tournament has no bearing on LMU or any funds that they will receive. It is nice that the lions are playing in a postseason tournament again. But the reality is that they will not be making money, rather losing money this postseason.

Loyal I was referring to the big dance and two WCC teams being in the tourney. I believe the Zags renegotiated the terms of the revenue sharing agreement so the team playing keeps a larger share but revenues are still shared with other WCC teams. I realize the two lesser tourneys are buy-in deals for the teams involved. Someone with better facts please correct me if I’m wrong.

So do we find out late tonight if LMU is in one of the tournaments?

My guess is the big dance selection is at 3 pm today, then the NIT picks up the next-in-lines, and finally the buy-in tournaments pick their fields. We may not hear until tomorrow unless lots of discussions have already occurred with the candidate schools.

Cal Baptist (future members of WCC along with GCU)? arena real nice-went there for CIF basketball last year. Right off 91 in Riverside.
Suspect place will be packed to see them host a WCC team...LMU better be ready to play.

USD is in the NIT - congrats to them. I don’t see USF or BYU in any post season tournament? Any info on them? Of course, the Gaels and the Zags are in the Big Dance. The Zags retained their #1 seed in their region.

USF was hosed by the NIT. They choose not to accept invite to CIT or CBI.
