Lions were bigger, stronger, faster, tougher and everyone played great.

I don’t know if anybody noticed but yesterday’s offensive strategy was the complete opposite of “normal” dunlap.
Not complaining, but what happened here? And why didn’t we play like this all year?

The only thing that I was disappointed was the attendance. I was hoping much better turn out- especially from the student body. Despite sitting at having the first winning season in many years the attendance is quite low.

Yes, everything was exceptional except the attendance. That said, the players and entire organization should be incredibly proud.
Glad everyone got some PT and a solid final Gersten performance for all three seniors.
This is the first time we have won two postseason tournament games in the same year since 1990.

While a winning program is very important for attendance, we have to factor in SoCal apathy and the type of student who chooses LMU. You aren't getting a student who chose LMU who would list "attending athletic events" as a priority in choosing LMU. They likely chose LMU because of it's good academic reputation, country-club like setting, Jesuit foundation etc. Kids who are all about supporting their schools athletic teams choose Gonzaga, St. Marys, Pac 12 or Big 10 schools, BYU, or east coast schools like Boston College. The modern LMU student is more interested in instagram, celebrities, and hanging out. Even UCLA, USC, struggle with this but they do much better when it comes to attendance due to sheer size and athletic tradition. Pintens needs to figure out how to make attending a game cool. Dim the lights, bring back the band, etc. It's a little bit of a chicken and egg situation because a near empty Gersten isn't cool. Winning is a start but the powers that be need to do more than begging fans to come to the game on twitter and offering free beer. It's not easy.

I agree with Pumpfake. A band would be a good start. I have been told that the Music Department refuses to help. Maybe we could pay a band director from a neighborhood school and have him/her recruit students from the student body. The bands at most schools are composed of students from the general student population and not necessarily from the Music Department.
I think Pintens ought to also try to make LMU a South Bay team. I believe LMU is the only Division 1 school in the South Bay. With a winning program (a sicking point), there must be plenty of people in the South Bay who would just like to see good basketball. Maybe they could be enticed to their first game with tickets for the kids if the parents pay a minimal fee.
Student Services should also develop events to get students to games. An LMU game ought to become a fun evening for the typical LMU student.

We beat Fullerton and Weber State before losing to Utah State in the CIT a few years back.

lmuseniorfan - LMU coverage in the Daily Breeze, a main South Bay daily, is virtually non-existent. They get better coverage in the LA Times which itself isn't much. One way to start LMU recognition is to improve relations with the Breeze.
