Hi dedicatedlionfan Sorry about your frustration - I will try to quote the relevant part of the article next time. Subscription to ESPN insider is something like $59 or $39 per year and I think its worth it. You can keep up with the scouting reports, recruiting news and rumors, and sports results from all sports not just college basketball.

so im getting frustrated when you post the link......but then only those who have insider access can see....... Here is what was cited on the Daye going #13 rating: "Analysis: The Pacers' biggest need is an athletic big man who can score and block shots. Unfortunately, there aren't any of those guys in the draft this year. They are also looking for a starting point guard. But if the draft plays out like this, the Pacers would have to reach. The good news is that Daye could be a great fit, especially if they start playing Danny Granger more at the 4. Daye's shooting ability and upside remind some of, dare we say, Jonathan Bender. " Jonathan Bender is a 7'0" small forward who played 7 years for the Indiana Pacers averaging 15 minutes per game, 5.6 ppg and 2.2 rpg. Probably made less than $2 million per year - tough sledding there!

A brief note in today's Dailey Breeze (I can't find it on line) reaffirmed that players have to commit or withdraw from the NBA draft on Monday, June 15. The article noted that Austin Daye would have to decide by then whether or not to throw his lot into the draft. From the mock drafts of Chad Ford, I thought Daye would commit - for the money if not for the joy and playing time - but the article sounded like commiting to the draft was still up in the air for Daye?

Latest from Chad Ford:
Austin Daye, F, So., Gonzaga Daye has the talent of a lottery pick, and has impressed teams in workouts and at the Chicago combine. However, his lack of physical strength has teams worried (he weighed just 191 pounds in Chicago). Daye's range goes anywhere from 13 to 20 with the Pacers, Suns, Pistons, and Jazz all showing interest.
That will probably be enough to convince him to stay in the draft and hire an agent. Right now I'd say there's a 90 percent chance he stays in the draft.
Patrick Mills, PG, So., St. Mary's Mills gained some serious NBA cred in the Olympics and had a solid sophomore season before an injury knocked him out for the last month. He's healthy again and will try to get scouts to remember those Tony Parker comparisons they were using last summer. He has the quickness and speed Parker possesses, but still lacks the consistent jumper and decision-making scouts are looking for. I'm not sure where he goes at this point. His range is somewhere between 22 and 40. He has said he's staying in the draft, but given how unsure he is about being a first-round pick, he may change his mind and go back to school.

Today's Chad Ford update has Daye going #14 - lack of character concerns is a factor here - he's a clean cut youth. Ford has the Lakers picking Collison from UCLA to "replace" Fisher in the coming years. I might prefer Mills instead with his quickness and shooting skills as a surprise pick. I think this was the case with Farmar. Down side is Collison and Mills are both "small" guards, which don't have Jackson's favor. However, will Phil return or will he ride into the sunset with his record 10th championship?

Well now we know - Daye did go #15 to Detroit in the first round. Today's article in the Breeze said someone had "promised" Daye a first round pick and Detroit came through. The theme is this year's picks after a few top choices seems to be "upside potential." Even I have upside potential but I probably won't deliver. Will these others, like the gangly center from Ohio State who needs to learn how to play. I thought this is what college was for - finding yourself and your role in this life. After 17 picks on the second round, Mills is still waiting for a call.

The theme is this year's picks after a few top choices seems to be "upside potential." . I heard that a lot before the housing bubble burst. Sad to hear that Patrick Mills was pretty much left in the dumpster. I'm sure he regrets making the bold move to the pros. I'm really shocked he was not in higher favor.

I agree with ironlions and fanblade. Saw in the Breeze that Darrell Collison, drafted #21, will automatically be guaranteed $2.2M for his first two years of "play" and some amount for the third year. This is due to a "salary" scale apparently agreed by the NBA. Maybe he can negotiate for more?? And what does Daye have guaranteed for going #15? Suffice to say that if what he is paid for one year were in my 401K, I wouldn't still be working!

Re Mills, I also thought he would go higher with his skills. I hope he gets the chance to show his talents as he can light up a game.

This on Mills from ESPN.
2 25th (55th) Patrick Mills PG St. Mary's (CA) from Denver The Blazers saved Patty Mills from slipping out of the draft. If he could have jumped right after the Olympics, he would have gone much higher. He's super quick and a great kid, but he's small and a lot of teams don't believe he's a point guard. The Blazers don't really have a roster spot for him, but he might be able to continue to improve overseas.
So maybe we won't see him for a while in the NBA.
