It feels like it's been awhile since we had a home game. This should be an interesting game. USD has had ups and downs but recently a very big UP when they upset #20 SMC. We could catch the Toreros off guard. Hopefully they've been partying hard this week after the big win and are a still little hungover... Go lions!

Vegas has us down by 10.5 points. I don't think so. We either win by 4 or lose by 25. The one takeaway so far this season is there is no time for the middle ground!
Hope we win by 4!

After their big win over Kentucky they lost to some random team by 20. Let hope the are having a similar follow up game after the big over #20 St. Mary's
Geno Pomare will be a handful for our bigs.
Go Lions

another 20+ point loss "USD turned a tight first half and took control by outscoring the Lions 22-8 to start the second half, scoring all 22 points in the paint." OUCH after 22 games, we are not showing any signs of improvement and i dont know how we can "jell" and come together with the same core of players to make any serious improvements next season... the young players' confidence must be crushed and there is no support from the fans anymore... i just dont see any motivation for a fresh start to next season without being embarrassed constantly again.

This is what I have been saying all along. ANOTHER embarrassment tonight. ALL 5 WCC losses are by 20+. Rodney must be trying to set records. He is doing a great job speeding up his firing. LMU is the doormat of the WCC for Men's Basketball. That was very tough for me to say. But it is true. The players are demoralize because the coaches show the same emotions. I don't know what is going on behind closed doors, but it sure seems like the coaching staff is throwing 100% of the blame on the players. I think the coaches are making very little adjustments. They have recruited the wrong players for Rodney's system. That is quite obvious. I wouldn't be shocked if some current players transfer. I would not blame them for doing so (especially our red-shirt). Our program is floating with little direction (except down). I don't see how next year will be that much different. And figure in next year with Gonzaga, St. Mary's, and USD (current top 3 in conference) return all their stars. There is 6 losses right there and a Santa Clara team that is showing signs under its first year coach. There may be 7 or 8 losses in conference next year off the bat. So we would have to run the table with the remaining teams (Pepperdine, USF, Portland). Pepperdine and USF always give us problems. You get the picture as we don't address our Big Man problem next year because we have two more guards coming in. Tonight....points in the paint...USD = 50, LMU = 22. OUCH! Next year how can we change that if we do not get new big men down low. We can't. Tention's recruiting strategy has BACKFIRED and backfired badly. Change is coming. I'm convinced. Write the letters to President Lawton and Bill Husak. We are the laughing stock of the WCC. I hope Husak is getting things in order to make the move. If Davey and Holland can be canned, this one is rather simply. NO IMPROVEMENTS MADE THROUGHOUT THE SEASON and LITTLE HOPE IN SIGHT. The players recruited for the last 3 season do not fit the system Tention runs. Young team excuse cannot be used when getting consistently beat by 20+ in conference night in, night out. Fans are extremely upset and the fans that are the most upset is the alumni (students are not even showing up. There was maybe 50-100 students in attendance this evening. 1465 in attendance this evening. How bad is that). Boosters in the stands are talking and I know Husak is hearing it. Husak is monitoring the situation very closely. So close it seems as if he has been seen at team practices lately. If that is not telling, I don't know what is. I just hope that LMU finally DOES SOMETHING and puts money where its mouth is. Husak better not be giving lip service to the boosters. Lawton better pony up the cash and buy out Tention's contract and get a proven coach. If it means paying two coaches for two years, so be it. What is sad is that there is more action off the court than on the court. Go figure. This is not for the faint of heart. This is business and I think Rodney's time is counting down just as this season slowly, VERY SLOWLY comes to a close. GO LIONS!

It could be argued there are many fixes that are needed for this team. Point guard is the first. Cory is doing the best he can, but he gets out played at both ends of the court and Q hasn't learned how he needs to play to be successful at this level. If Kwame Vaughn can play the PG, that will help, but that is a lot to expect from a freshman. Have any of our bigs led the team in rebounding in any game yet this year? That is area number two. The bigs don't score, don't defend, don't rebound, don't defend, don't run the court...and did I say they don't defend? Will they get better next year? Have they improved during the course of this year?

Whoever gets promoted to the starting lineup is due to have a poor game. Happened with QT, JZ, Marko, Terron, Max and now Brad. Nobody can make it stick. This is sad...

The last thing we need for the team and fans is to see our blowout loss full blast on TV/Newspapers/Mags Wait until we go to Spokane to play Gonzaga.

Here's an unorthodox idea that could do something. Maybe, just maybe, we should play OJ and JZ at forward. Couldn't hurt, since we aren't getting any rebounding out of that position anyway, and when JZ has 11 boards, with the next highest being 2, there's a problem.
I've come to the conclusion, though, that we're the Detroit Lions of college basketball under RT. All the issues we have with our bigs, and we keep bringing in guards, as Millen brings in wideouts.
Although I hate to admit it, I think we've reached the point where the "but at least we're good in the classroom" and the "at least he's building them to be men" arguments no longer fly. These are great traits if the program is succeeding. Problem is that we're not. All the experience we're getting, and nothing is changing. The starting lineup is a deck of cards this point, seemingly reshuffled and dealt out before every game. What ever happened to Mason? Last I heard he had bulked up and wanted to play more inside. Why isn't Deadwiler running the point? He's been the bright spot on this team, and seems to settle them more than anyone, between QT's ballhandling woes and the fact that although talented, Counts is still a walk-on, and there must be a reason that he's not a scholarship athlete by now. Why, with Marko's size, is he always playing from the perimeter?
Tell you the truth, it might be a good thing if we had a transfer or two. Maybe we could find a big someplace and plug them in. Lord knows we need one.

Lionspride,
I question your ability to understand a student-athlete's drive...
Or maybe your comments are meant to stir up the pot a bit.
Why on earth would a red-shirt transfer?? So he could sit out ANOTHER year and wait to see the floor? Yeah, that makes sense. Unless of course he goes to a Div II... which I doubt is an avenue he wants to explore.
Quit trying to stir it up. And make it seem like your opinion carries more weight than it should.
And about the $$ commitment where is your $$ check?? In the mail?

If any one has read the new "Lions Code", the student code that replaced "The Loyola Man" as the vision of a LMU student, they would see where the mediocrity of this team comes from and why it can't improve. Mediocrity has become institutionalized at LMU. Fr. Lawton entombed it at a convocation this week. Read it! Grammatically poor, and uninspiring in every respect. Holds very low standards and requires the student to be a non-thinking mamby pamby.. like this team. Every venture fails or wins on its vision. High visions create champions, low visions create pity.
