It's going to be a test that'll give us a clear idea of where the lions are going this season.

ORU will be a tough game for us. The Golden Eagles went to the big dance last year and gave Memphis all they could handle. They are lead by Caleb Green 6-foot-8, 240-pound senior forward (20.8 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 1.0 spg).

Just found this board and thought I'd come over before tipoff... I know our fans (ORU) are excited (and a bit nervous) about tonight's match up. You don't usually see teams getting tested by quality opponents so early in the season. From my perspective some factors in your favor... 1). Atmosphere... needless to say, homecourt is large advantage but I think fans around the country are starting to realize the toughness of a WCC road game (not just in Spokane). Don't know if our guys are ready for that yet... 2). Our interior big man (King) has yet to play in a D1 game. 3). Rebounding? Our first couple exhibition efforts weren't pretty despite our size. www.orusports.com/talk

Greetings, LMU fans. Nothing like another installment of the ageless battle between Christians and Lions. Seriously, what kind of crowd are you expecting tonight, and will it be close to capacity?

There seems to be quite a buzz around campus for this season and this game. I know people who have never gone to a game before who are going to this one. After seeing our exhibition I am nervous too, but it should be a good early battle between two quality mid-majors.

Here's some interesting info from the Loyolan. --------- This Friday, Nov. 10, LMU men's basketball officially kicks off its season in its home-opener against Oral Roberts University. This will mark the sixth time the two schools meet and the second time the ORU Golden Eagles will play at Gersten Pavilion-the Lions last hosted them in 1993 in an 88-76 win over the Golden Eagles. ORU leads the all-time series 5-1 over LMU. Last season the Golden Eagles went 21-12 and 13-3 in the Mid-Continent Conference. Led by two-time Mid-Con Player of the Year senior Caleb Green, the team won both the MCC's regular season and tournament titles, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1984. The team also returns two starters and five letterwinners, including 2006 Mid-Con Tournament MVP senior Ken Tutt. -------- www.laloyolan.com/media/storage/paper803/news/2006/11/06/BasketballPreview/Back-For.More.Mens.Basketball-2441105.shtml?norewrite200611101352&sourcedomain=www.laloyolan.com#more

It has always been difficult for LMU to get huge crowds into Gersten. There are exceptions like the Zags game, or the Pepperdine, but for the most part its never really packed. Being a commuter campus in a huge city is difficult; however, I’m hoping things are starting to change. We have a deep and talented team and expectations are high. I hope the student body really comes out to support the team this year. Having a loud and rambunctious crowd behind really does help. I’m excited for the season starting, and playing ORU will be a good test to see how good we really are.
Go Lions!

I think a lot of it is because we play small schools that most casual students have never heard of so they are apathetic.
LMU's now got a good bit of students on campus so we've got the kids, they just need to turn off MTV and get down to Gersten.

I think we could have an entire thread, maybe board, on how we as fans can turn around the sports apathy on campus.
Is the pep band going to be back?
GO LIONS!

Great game, guys! Congratulations on the win. ORU had a group of 75 or so that watched the game via the video stream projected on a big screen.
It was a lot of fun, but a disappointing loss. Your guys picked up their intensity and controlled turnovers in the second half to gain the advantage.
Good luck this season. We'll be following your team!
