I am truly sad for KY. Not for us fans. Not for the basketball team. But for KY himself. As Coach Scholl pointed out, let's just hope he becomes the first person in his family to get a college degree.
I agree with zagsforlife that KY was probably going to be the odd man out with Drew/Ash/Garibay, but there still would have been 20-25 minutes a game for him. If he is leaving for playing time, he might squeeze 5 extra minutes a game out of another program, but LMU is a true postseason contender next year.
I just logged in after midnight and saw this note. In reading through the posts, maybe this is the elephant in the room, but I am surprised nobody mentioned the incident from the Gonzaga home game. As soon as that happened, and was caught on camera, I had a feeling KY could be gone. I know Coach Good says he loves KY, and I truly believe that, but physical contact rarely bodes well.

Hats off to KY for two great years. Losing this one is more of an emotional loss because you liked the energy of the play and the quality of the kid as much as anything else.
His energy and his family coming to every game and bringing a special energy themselves into Hank's House will be missed.

That is a bummer he was my favorite player on the team. I wonder if he is going to go to Santa Clara and play with former teammate Robert Smith (their starting PG who scored a lot against us).
I guess he was unhappy that with Edgar coming back and Hamilton turning into a low post player he would not get the playing time to improve and perhaps get on that Puerto Rican national team. I see why he would opt to leave.
And while while Good and everybody is touting the company line, I believe this makes us lack depth. We have a glut of guards: JD, Given, Ireland, Davis, Vernon, Deji. We have 3 small forwards in Viney, LaRon, Lawson. Our only inside scorer is Ashley, while Garibay still has to prove that he's healthy. Who backs them up?
Good and Scholl must thing that we are getting another big man to say they are not actively recruiting. I know Good is up there in age and maybe he's tired, but last time I checked Joe Paterno still sits in kid's living rooms.

As soon as that happened, and was caught on camera, I had a feeling KY could be gone. I know Coach Good says he loves KY, and I truly believe that, but physical contact rarely bodes well. It didn't help that the announcers kept mentioning it, it was written about and so forth. I do believe that he might get 30 minutes somewhere else, but you are right thats only 5 more than he'd get at LMU. This could be that he is trying to get more exposure and playing time to get on the Puerto Rican team. I don't know if Rutgers is looking for players (where his PR teammates is a scoring star) or he is looking to Santa Clara to reunite with Smith who was his H.S teammate. Any chance that he is looking at a bigger program that needs players and might offer financial aid? He is transferring after two years which is typically what transfer students do. He got two years of college free maybe he is willing to sit on the bench at a bigger program? A few places come to mind. UCLA? Needs tons of players who are willing to play defense and hustle. They have 5 scholarship players. USC? They are facing problems but a USC degree is close to an LMU degree and he might be more featured there with a bunch of players leaving X-mid major: Perhaps he wants to get out of town too close to home he might be looking at another mid major team in the midwest or east coast that will graduate a bunch of players next year Either way my last thought, we'll miss you Kev you made LMU games exciting with your above the rim play something that was sorely lacking for many years

I think ky will regret this decision down the road. I agree. Rather bizarre move but good luck to him. I think we'll be OK.

Nice photo fan - UCSB - that might be a good spot for Kevin - at least we can see him play once a year vs LMU.

I'm really disappointed to hear this. He truly had a breakout season with us this year, and I almost feel like it all went to his head a little too quickly...it's a shame....

At least from the outside looking in, this seems like an incredibly bone-headed move on Youn's part. I'm not sure where else he could go and play more meaningful minutes.
Like others have said, I can only speculate it's a personality clash of some sort that is showing him the door. That, or he knows he's going to be losing time to incoming recruits or AH/EG down low.
Good Luck KY; you'll need it.

Ya know I'm a little surprised by everyone's reaction. Of course we don't know where Kevin is going but there are some options here that don't seem half bad and him being forced to take a year off and build his body might help. #1. Grades, he might not have been making the cut or has other academic interests than what LMU has to offer. #2 SDSU is close to home and lives off of transfers, it might have been a real good deal #3 Playing time, while everyone jumps to this and says where else is he gonna get those kinds of mins...? Well after a year of learning a system and obviously falling behind in the position race here, probably most places. #4 Rotation, Why get shuffled back in the rotation. He can go somewhere improve himself and step in and play great ball. #5 Attitude, while people dismissed the hand placement of Coach Good's hand it seemed pretty clear to me. I know there is emotion but what happened should never be tolerated. It drives me crazy that this was acceptable. #6 the PAC 10 was WAY DOWN and a lot of teams are rebuilding and trying to get some pieces in place which going anywhere in there could be considered a step up. While I love the way we are going in the standings and hopefully LMU will be a house hold name, in 30 years are people gonna know Gonzaga after their run of over a decade if they stop winning suddenly? I ask the same question are people gonna know the UCLA name in 30 years and remember that they didn't have the greatest teams from 2009 to 2015? All will know UCLA most wont know how good, few will know Gonzaga all of them will know how good they were. So while we are an up and coming team where is our ceiling?
While Kevin has always driven me crazy and in a way am a little excited to lose some of the careless play, I want to say thank you to Kevin. Thank you for putting yourself on the line for two years and pushing as hard as you can. I always noticed that you wanted to play more open gym and wanted to go the extra mile and while it drives most people crazy it helped them too. I wish you good luck in the future and not because you'll need it and I want you gone but because you deserve it. Because for the past two years you have done everything you can for LMU. Hopefully wherever you land it is the right place for you and your family and you'll find peace in your decision. Thank you for the last two years of your life. Good luck.

Kevin was rated a 67 on ESPN while Deji is a 86 and Godwin as an 89. Obviously ratings are not everything, but still QUITE a difference in perceived talent.
Kevin had some skills, but he had so many holes in his game. I would always cringe when he would shoot an ill advised three or try to dribble through his legs and get stripped, with Good shaking his head in the background. It was also very frustrating watching him play defense(Matador style).
Will miss his dunks, blocks and energy but we will be more than fine.

Godwin was actually ranked a 91 early but brought down to a 89. However, those numbers don't really indicate anything...however those numbers are fun for us fans to discuss.

Forgive me for pointing out the obvious, but he was a sophomore. And like nearly all sophomores in the NCAAs, there were some holes and some lapses in his game. However, the improvement of his shooting from year 1 to 2 showed a lot of promise for the future of his game. And perhaps his handle would've come too - although when playing the 4, you really shouldn't ever put it on the floor. While I do think the Lions seem to have enough depth to absorb this loss, let's not deride a guy who gave his all for our team - esp during his freshman year when he was given more demands than any freshman should ever have to be given.

UCR is the closest DI school to Perris, so I kinda get it, but it's still quite the step down.
