Good job to SMC defeating SDSU in a good game and Portland topping Montana in a near-buzzer beater.

I read an article that said this is a first since 73-74. Can't believe that but its good for the conference. Both teams are teetering on the edge and have tough games left in the OOC season.

You are right about SMC being ranked before more recently. The story seems to point out that no 2 WCC teams at the same time have been ranked in the top 25 since the 70s, which is a little shocking. Gaels were last ranked 18 years ago. After being the West Coast Conference's lone representative in The Associated Press' college basketball poll for the past decade, Gonzaga has another league member in the rankings as Saint Mary's, Calif. moved in at No. 24 on Monday.
The Gaels (7-0) were last in the Top 25 for the final three weeks in the 1988-89 season. With Gonzaga at No. 19, the WCC has two ranked teams for the first time since the beginning of the 1973-74 season.
"That's the last time two of them were ranked? That's unbelievable. That's surprising. That's great for our league," seventh-year Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett said Monday. "It's nice. It's good for our program, good for our league. It's a positive reward for a month in the season. It doesn't matter for the long-term, but at this point in the season it shows our guys are playing well." sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/basketball/ncaa/12/10/bc.bkc.t25.collegebkbpo.ap/index.html/

Big games from around the WCC on ESPN earlier. USD got a quality win over Kentucky and Gonzaga dropped hard to Tennessee. SMC was almost scared by Fullerton. They may have to hope for a few more escapes in the WCC than I expected.
Looking outside at the BW some interesting things. UCR takes USC into the 2nd... tied up at 34 a piece! Long Beach scores 16 in the first half against Bucknell. Both BW teams eventually ended up losing.

First day of WCC play SMC 76 SCU 45 USD 46 USF 41 UP 82 PU 78 Not too shocking. I think SMC will win the leauge. UP could break into top half but hopefully not at LMU's expense as we should defeat them 2x

Gael defeat Zags in 89-85 OT. They got some home team breaks by the refs (just caught the end) and their crowd did not rush the court. Fun game from what I saw. GU Boards have crashed.

SMC v. GU was a good one -- some of the worst officiating I've seen in a long time, though. I think the refs got caught up in the frenzy of the shoebox environment of SMC's gym. Either way, it was good to see those two teams finally play. I say GU thrashes them up in Spokane though.

The two teams definitely get a home court advantage so the return trip for the Gaels will be interesting. If they can take care of the zags in Spokane I'll be impressed. It should also wrap up their WCC bid even if they do not win the conference title.
I just watched the tivo'ed game and I'm glad that LMU by way of freshman phenom Orlando Johnson got a shout out. Bardo went down some of the standout freshmen in the conference and OJ got mentioned for points and rebounds.

Well I know we were all very sad about getting blown out by SMC at home but we are not alone. The Gaels dismantled the Waves tonight 100-64. It was 53-23 at the half.
USD is hurling trash onto their floor during the GU game. Gave the zags some costly technical foul shots because of it.
