Here's a 2005 look back at the life and death of Hank Gathers with the announcers on March 4, 1990. It includes audio from that night's game and from the hospital hours later as well as additional commentary. www.sportsbusinessradio.com/node/179

I was a freshman at LMU at the time and it was a day where people remember where they were at. I had just left a function in Torrance when I first heard about Hank's collapse on the radio. I drove over to my Mom's house nearby to take a nap - praying that Hank would be okay. Unfortunately, our prayers weren't answered that night. Long live Hank.

6:55PM - exactly 18 years ago. A moment of silence and prayer in Hank's memory.

I cried today just like I've cried every March 4th for the last 18 years. Still remember it like it was yesterday.

Some people go through life and never get to meet a hero. I am blessed to have watched and known Hank.

Just finished watching the LMU defeat of LaSalle 1/6/90 game on an ESPN channel. What unbelievable memories this brings back for me. What a truly amazing player he was.
I was Junior at SMC at the time and hearing the news of Hank was devestating. We were all so young at the time and it seemed as though it could never happen to someone so talented and with such an amazing future in front of him. I remember speaking to my Mother and she cried. She told me that she went to high school with then Coach Paul Westhead in Philly - so for her, the loss hit home as well.
Hank will always be remembered in our hearts. It affected all of us in the WCC, and especially those of us who were students at the time. God bless Hank and LMU.
