I can't see or hear the game but it looks like they are keying on Levin on the defense Osborne is coming up big today!

We definitely cooled off in the second ten minutes. We got stagnant against the zone and got into a funk of simply passing the ball around the top of the zone rather than trying to penetrate. Still, our guys have a 10 point lead at the half. Even scoring. This is the best passing I have seen from the Lions this year. Defense has been very good. We are at a definite height disadvantage but hustle makes up for the physical disadvantage. We have a commendable 3 rebound edge. Only 6 TOs, but Valpo doesn't pressure the ball. When our guys have been active on the offensive end, we've gotten a number of easy inside baskets. Let's hope the guys come out active in the second half!

Half way thru the second half - so much for coming out with energy in the second half. The guys play tired - no explosion, careless mistakes. Ben lost two balls in a row.

What a complete collapse. Starting with our famous second half 10 minute offensive dead zone, right after the coaches get a hold of the boys in the locker room. What is it that they say that turns our warriors so timid in the 2d half?? Why do other teams come out in the 2d half fired up, even when they start off 10 points down? Why can't we do that? Also I disagree about Evan Payne. I think he's like Vernon Teal, Takes more than he gives. But he is flashy, just like Teal. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he grows out of it soon. The Coaches NEED to recruit shooters. Get over it and recruit Shooters! What good is athleticism if you can't make a basket? How many games have we lost because we only shoot 33%. Bad decision making, bad plays, yikes! A simple zone shuts us down?? What is that about?

Evan Payne makes mistakes but he was the only guy showing any spark in the second half. He's also the only guy willing to penetrate the zone.
Gabe played the second half as if he was dazed from a blow to the head. This was the first time I've seen Gabe be a non-factor for an entire half. Actually, he was a negative factor due to late reactions and poor fouls. He had played well in the first 10 minutes, but then he simply "went away."
CJ had a couple of nice cuts to the basket that got him a couple of baskets. I thought, "Oh good, maybe CJ is finally finding it." But, alas, he disappeared and provided no further spark.
Ben had two early baskets but also two quick fouls that put him on the bench. He is going to continue facing inside guys who are bigger and stronger than he is. However, he moves better than most of them. He really needs to learn how to use his mobility against his opponents. In the games he's played so far, he mostly tries going straight up against them. That seldom works because he gets pushed around too easily. On occasion, I've watched him get mobile and he's been quite effective. That worked today.......on his first two shots. Then, I never saw it happen the rest of the game. He's also proving to be a liability on defense because he doesn't react quickly enough to inside incursions by the other teams.
Their wing (Peters) killed us with his shots off screens. Clever invention, .... the screen. Too bad we don't use it............or recognize it being used against us.
Chase got blasted on defense; and only got off one 3-pointer (it was good). He really does deserve a few screens.
It really is a shame that the guys wasted the opportunity they gave themselves with their first 11 minutes of effort -- great defensive effort, strong passing, good inside looks, strong cuts to the basket, even team scoring, almost no mistakes. They did all the things they needed to do to make up for the team's deficiencies (no outside shooting, no intimidating inside threat, and no "go to" guy other than AI). The rest of the game was a disaster...........without a single redeeming quality. In twelve minutes they turned a 10 point advantage into a 10 point deficit.
I'm wondering which team will show up for league play. If it's the former, we can hold our own. If it's the latter, we will be fighting it out deep in the second division with Santa Clara, Pepperdine and maybe USF.

We gave away chance to win a road game. At least this epic road schedule is over. Their freshman forward killed us.

Peters, the Crusaders frosh, did play an exceptional game with over 30 points, as Iron notes. We're missing Godwin inside who could have helped. Dickinson had 5 points early and then went quiet - that lack of offense hurt us. Osborne contributed in the first half with 8 but ended with 8. Winter you were correct about the Crusaders interior defense, once they made adjustments they controlled our guys. On the positive, Gabe got double figures on offense but was shut down nicely in the first half. Credit to the frosh for again scoring double in a tough contest. Payne and AI were the engines on offense and will continue to be so for the season from the outside. Finally, like Iron notes, we're returning home and not travelling for airline miles in the remainder of the schedule. Go Lions! Let's beat Cal Poly!

The second half of this game has me worried about our prospects going forward. I think the key is getting Deji back as soon as possible. If we look at the Valpo game and consider what we are missing with Deji out, we see that we are missing a lot. First, Deji wouldn't have allowed Peters to score 30 points. No way. No how. Deji would have also grabbed some key boards. He is all but tied with Ben as the third leading rebounder on the team. Another thing about this game is it seemed to be our least effective game as far as getting points in transition. Valpo did a great job here not turning the ball over and getting back on D. I think Deji might have disrupted their offsensive flow more (that's what he does) and we would have scored more in transition. On offense, Deji would have given us a mid-range threat who can penatrate, elevate, and pop. Without him, it was AI and Payne on the outside and baseline cuts by Levin, AO, Mornar on the inside. Deji would have given their D something else to think about and opened up things for others. I guess all this is to say, GET WELL SOON DEJI! We need you.
