I’m sure the folks at Stanford will be excited to see him go over to CAL. Sounds like another Patino situation. It will be a miracle if we get him now. Maybe Braun will be on our list now.

Montgomery coming to Westchester? Please get the crack pipe out of your mouth. Maybe we can get Vince Lombardi to coach our Rugby squad as well. Our team plays in a gym that would make Gene Hackman in Hoosiers laugh. We need to get a coach who can WIN quickly and brings a proven track record. I think Nolan Richardson would be an EXCELLENT hire. Nolan badly wants back into coaching and has enough money to take a lower salary with Loyola. I'm tired of getting WCC and UofA retreads and hope we nail a winner with this hire.

No way we're getting Montgomery. Braun just got fired from Cal, I'd say he's a better fit. This guy from the Mercury News doesn't seem to think that's a possibility: " (Quick aside to Cal fans who have asked this question on the Hotline comment boards: Mike Montgomery would not take the job. No chance, no way. Period. End of discussion.)" www.mercextra.com/blogs/collegesports/2008/03/25/ohio-state-73-cal-56-was-it-ben-brauns-last-game/Also, The Daily Breeze weighed in today: www.dailybreeze.com/sports/ci_8699011" Reports out of Loyola Marymount have the Lions opening their search for a basketball coach with a run at former Stanford coach Mike Montgomery. Second on their list is said to be Mike Dunlap, the former LMU player who coached at D2 Metro State College in Denver and now is a Denver Nuggets assistant.
There also are rumors about Cal State Fullerton coach Bill Burton - that's not going to make former LMU/current Fullerton athletic director Brian Quinn happy - and former UNLV coach/current Portland Trailblazers assistant Bill Bayno. Former Pepperdine coach Jan van Breda Kolff, once upon a time a star at Palos Verdes High, also has been mentioned." He says "reports out of Loyola Marymount" but it seems more likely he has just been reading other press accounts (and possibly this message board).

Cal could also go after Musselman, which would make our Dons friends unhappy.

Dunlop would be OK, but will not bring attendance back to Gersten. It only takes the financial backing to get Montgomery or Richardson. Richardson was making $500k a year at Arkansas (years ago). I don't have the figures on Montgomery. If LMU is serious, they NEED to PONY UP the cash. Simply as that. Maybe there is some magic in Husak's hand. He did fire Tention with two years remaining on his contract. If he is tight with Montgomery, well then...make it happen Husak.

I would trust the Daily Breeze over the LA Times but I think the rumors about Burton are from here . Montgomery Dunlap Bayno VBK It does look like Husak is trying to get head coaches with winning pasts. Bayno and VBK have scandal attached to them, which makes them seem unlikely. Especially VBK who was not given the UCR job last year. Burton, I do not know about his record at Fullerton. It's cool to see Monty on the "official" list at #1 and I'm fine with Dunlap. He's an alum and had a lot of success at the DII level, I do not know if that will work in the WCC but he has a lot of fans.

Scratch Bayno off the list. The only thing worse than being 5-26 under Tention would be being 5-26 and on probation under Bayno.

Montgomery would be more likely to come here than Malibu but I think it is still wishful thinking. He's want a lot of money and probably a lot of changes. Not sure if Husak will be willing to have that sort of star power so close to his small office. Husak wants Montgomery. Whether or not he can get him is the question. Would be a huge coup if he could make it happen. Obviously it isn't easy. I do not know how you go about selling the job to someone like Mike. Maybe John's connection, the Stanford connection, it is less pressure than a high-major job, has the chance to turn a program around, hypnosis?

Not sure if Husak will be willing to have that sort of star power so close to his small office. Doesn't Monty have a buyout from the Warriors? Basically LMU could "Norm Chow" Monty. Chow got fired by Titans but had a million dollar contract. UCLA gave Chow a $200K salary and he gets 800K from the Titans.

Please no Jan van Breda Kolff. I don't even want his named metioned. Everyone wants Monty, but if and when we don't get him, the rest of the names mentioned are going to make me long for the days of Charles Bradely. He's still selling garage doors in Colorado, we can get him cheap. I want Lawton calling the shots on this hire.

Agreed Bankman 44, Jan van Breda Kolff should not even be mentioned. Monty would be an amazing hire but it would be a small miracle getting him. I think the next guy in line should be Mike Dunlap. He is a LMU grad, did a excellent job at Metro State, and now has NBA cred.

Although it clearly would not seem to please many on this board, I think Bill Bayno could be a very good choice. His recruiting basically made Calipari when he recruited Camby and others. He got the head gig at UNLV when he was like 31 and did a pretty solid job there. His downfall had to do with Odom, but I believe that had really nothing to do with him and was outside booster stuff. Killer recruiter, success as a big time college head coach, and NBA experience. I think he's at least someone to look into.

www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_8722014If we don't get either Monty or Dunlap it will be a big disappointment. I think our Ace up the sleeve is having John played for us. As a dad I would want to make the program my son played at top notch! ;D I'm okay with Bayno, and possible Braswell. Anyone else is bad bad news. Come on Husack et al...let's get it right!!! Go Lions
