Re: The "BLOWN LAYUP". We would not have been playing in that game without Chris Ayers. He had a great year and a great game. He was second in scoring with 12 pts and 9 rbs in 30 minutes just ahead of Matty who had 11 in 33 minutes and behind Brandon with 15. The thing that was REALLY blown was the lead. I was there with many LMU fans and also have the game on tape. I have watched it too many times. Take a good look and those last 7 minutes and help me see as that 14 point lead melted away, the substitutions, adjustments or LMU TIME OUTS because I missed them. We did nothing to stop the ZAGS momentum. Chris Ayer deserves respect for all he gave to LMU for 4 years as does every student athlete in NCAA sports. We are starting to sound like Cubbies fans......I have wanted to vent that for two years.

raynman...you're dead on w/everything you said. He does deserve our respect.
BUT...If you're 6'10, you have to @$!#ing dunk that ball. I don't care if you have 2 pts or 20.
Other things that irked me about that game: -Worthy's 4th foul. That's what turned the tide and started GU's run. -Batista's obvious push-off on Matty to take the lead. I know we were at the mythical kennel, but that was a joke.
Damnit, now I'm riled up. Time for a Maker's on the rocks.

I agree we gotta let it all go but when there's a wake going on we might as well dump all the resentments. I want to look forward. I like the kids we have. Whoever comes in here has PLENTY to work with for years! Get someone in here that can get 'er done. We can have a competitive 2008-9 season.

If you think this was a good decision then think of next year's team without OJ and TD. I hope for the players sake that they win some games, but it will be hard without the support of the administration. LMU Athletics has set the bar too high for themselves. They have standards and expectations that they can't support. I hope, but am not positive, that Lawton and Bove did not have a hand in this. It is pretty sad that the fate of a program would be decided by them. Coach Tention was a blown layup away from the Tourney in year one, a blown ACL away in year two, and in year 3 he had a group of kids who were, and I stress "were," more ambitious about winning at LMU than anyone. 11 coaches in 31 years is just not going to get it done. And enough already about the LMU tradition....an Elite 8 run in 1990 with two players who fell into your laps and were getting paid anyway is not tradition. Is there something that we should know about OJ and TD? I might not be a fan as long as all you guys, pretty much since signing day, but this firing troubles me. Has anyone thought about the kids, Wendell and Kwame, who made a commitment to a coach and University. These kids chose to represent your school to the best of their ability. They stuck with a program that struggled, knowing that they are joining a young nucleus that will only get better. Now worrying who is coming in? Three years is not enough time.

I think it is really hard on kids when a coach is fired. OJ made some comments to the newspaper that he felt betrayed or lied to. It is hard for them, probably harder for Wendell and Kwame who I hope are still committed to LMU. A man that helped convince them to make this big decision was asked to gather his belongings, pack his bags, and was escorted off the premises is shocking! But it happened and it is over.
What I hope these players realize is that the school is committed to getting a solid replacement that is willing and able to take these players and upcoming players to the next level. It's up to Bill Husak and the admin to prove that.

Andy Katz is jumping on the "We Crush Coaches" bandwagon meme saying how the WCC is most like the NBA. Quotes conference coaches dissing LMU for dropping RT. Grier joins the mix and Coach Few's heartfelt plea... "It's a horrible decision,'' Few said of forcing out Tention. "They've had bad luck. A year ago, they were right there with us [beat Gonzaga at home]. The people making the decisions have no idea what it takes to fix these programs." Suggestion for Few. Save the sermons for sunday.

I'm going to reiterate what I've been saying all along. We were still 6 games under .500 when we lost to the Zags in the conference finals. The game was arguably cost by the lack of timeouts or proper substitutions, as raynman10 said, which allowed the Zags to go on that run. Additionally, had we won that game, we would only have been playing in Dayton for the right to be served up to a 1 seed on a platter. Worthy's knee was a huge blow in the second year, but there was clearly not much encouragement coming from the coaching staff, as we went on the 8 game tailspin right after.
I disagree with the whole "but he almost led us to 2 championships" argument. We had losing records both those years, plus we only made it that far with Aggers' players.

I agree plus recruiting, recruiting, recruiting. We were being out recruited by USD, SCU, SMC etc. That is ridiculous. We need to get some impact post players, that wasn't happening, didn't look like it was happening anytime soon. The ones we tried to go after were nabbed by other schools usually others in the WCC like Rob Jones! We need someone who can pull out all the stops. I know we have a bad gym and it's been a long time since we've had 20 wins. it isn't the most sexy sales pitch but recruits should have been still breaking down our doors. We were almost in the dance, we had big attendance numbers last season, big tv coverage, scouts were everywhere but crickets. We can't spend all our time wrestling with Sacramento State for players. I'm nervous, it isn't easy, I hope we get it right this time.

He has been able to score on everyone he has gone up against. The kid just knows how to put the ball in the bucket. That is one reason UCONN was in contact with him early in the recruiting process, until they received a commitment from another PG. He is built pretty thin, he's 6'3/6'4 and 175. He's in the weight room every single day, meeting with a trainer right after school, going twice a day on the weekends. LMU got a steal when the other guy decommitted. Hopefully I will be able to sit and watch some games with you guys. Consider the PG problems solved.

I'm excited to see Kwame and Wendell in Lions uniforms. I'm sure they, like the rest of us are waiting to see who is named head coach. It will also be interesting to see the roster shake after the annoucement is made.
Go Lions
