Horrible shooting in the middle of the half. Poor all around play, but still hanging in there. Payne trying too much. But then an unexpected great spark from #5 Simon Krajcovic who I can't remember seeing in the first 3 efforts. Makes me wonder/hope Mike has other talent hidden on the bench. Down 6 at half this thing's not over!!!! Go Go Go Lions!!

Man I wish the LMU home games streamed as well as this link I'm watching this Arizona game on.
Very sloppy playing both teams right now.

Damn, Simon's offensive spark fizzled out leaving the Lion's with almost zero fire-power. In fact I think we would have had a problem hitting the Grand Canyon while standing on the rim. Missing wide open look after look frustrated defensive efforts as well. The turnover bug was still with us. And sure ASU did a good job of bottling up Evan.. but the big story has got to be our piss poor shooting.
I expect we will get well, in a manner of speaking, at the expense of a nice Div II (or is it III?) San Diego Baptist on Sunday. Normally I have scant interest in Div I teams beating up on lower Div puds but in this case it may be just what the Dr. ordered.

I guess everyone is too demoralized to even bother commenting. I neither saw nor heard the game. All I can go on is the stat sheet. A few things stand out (besides the really ugly final score).
1. We made 8 shots each half. ASU only made 10 and 11 shots. Therefore made shots differential wasn't that far off.
2. We took a lot more shots than they did. While it would have been helpful to have made some of those shots, at least there must have been some hustle and good play that allowed the Lions to take that many shots.
3. ASU's 3-point shots killed us (30-3). In our first games we gave up way too many open 3's because we kept ignoring the weak side. Was that the case tonight? This defensive deficiency has really surprised me. I know Coach D knows better.
4. Also on shooting 3s, I see where we were 1 for 11 with the shots well spread (every guy getting one or two shots. Evan took 3). You don't get into any kind of a shooting groove taking one shot. Look at ASU. There shooters shot 6, 5 and 4 3-pointers. We seem to have a rather half-hearted approach to our outside game. Maybe my impression is wrong since I can only go by the stat lines but I would think we'd be better off concentrating our outside game on our better shooters (assuming we have any).
5. We did s nice job in the first half with steals and converting those steals into points. Looks like the ASU coaching staff shored up that aspect of their game in the second half.
6. I am definitely bothered by the lack of production from all of the new players on the roster. Tonight it sounds like Simon had a good first half. In previous games we've had a few glimmers of hope with David H's and Patson's short spurts, but we need some sustained excellence from at least a couple of the newcomers.
7. For those of you who actually watched the game, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Winter for someone who is going only on a stat sheet, your analysis is on the point. It wasn't a very good game after the first half. I think the team was really pressing to do all the right things. I believe coach will correct most of these things as far as weak side help, closing out on the perimeter, and a lot of the little things that need to be addressed. The team has to play with a since of urgency. They'll work it out..
GO LIONS!!!!

I was disappointed with our effort against ASU and wanted to sleep on it before commenting.
The ASU game was another learning experience. The Lions focused on stopping ASU inside and did a nice job defending the paint. But this resulted in many open looks on the perimeter and ASU made their 3’s, which hurt. The Lions, as others noted, could “not hit the broad side of a barn” with their outside game. ASU did key on Payne and made his shots difficult. We played with good energy but I’m pretty sure we aren’t yet playing as the team Dunlap wants to see. ASU has a talented group of athletes who hustled. ASU turnovers kept the Lions in the game in the first half and we did build some momentum to end the half. But it wasn’t there in the second. My highlights include the play of Simon, who handles the ball well and brings a spark to the offense. He made several nice shots around the basket (lay up type) but as yet hasn’t shown the ability to score outside. Humphries was a real presence on the boards, pulling in many contested rebounds. We need him to establish an outside shooting presence to take some pressure off Payne. Last year, defenses had to worry about AI and Gabe and they aren’t here this season. Flint really hustled on defense and made several steals early - he was a pest. But he doesn't have the game to contribute much on offense. He made one nice lay up but that's the only contribution that sticks in my mind. We missed Matt and his game. I hope he returns to full health soon but I certainly don’t want to rush his return. We’ll manage until he is ready to return. Deji’s play is OK but he isn’t as sharp all around as he is capable of being – shooting, defense and rebounding. I attribute this to learning team play with all our new players. Godwin is much improved this season but we shouldn’t rely on him too much for offense. Let him take his shots when they are there but feeding him 10 feet from the basket and hoping he can make something happen isn’t working for me. Patson is already a good defender and swatted away several inside shots. He rebounded well – he is actually longer than Mornar, check out his arm lengths the next time you watch him. His offense is a work in progress. Herman showed some toughness with his presence inside but got stuffed several times when trying to make a layup in traffic. If he can learn to go up stronger and dunk the ball from point blank, he will get several more baskets each game. Spiers got some minutes but hasn’t yet found his “sharpshooters” eye. Otherwise, did not make much noise while on the court.
Overall, this is a young team learning to play together. I expect better efforts in the future as Dunlaps and the players learn from each game. Last evening wasn’t that night.

As poorly as we were shooting, we were only down by 9 points (45-36, I believe) with under 8 minutes remaining. Needed one or two stops to make run.
I heard part of the second half on KXLU. How was the ball movement?
Just need to learn from this. Let's hit some open shots on Sunday and hopefully get back our confidence.
Go Lions!
