Iron - huh, me thinks your bias is showing. You state you don't know what Godwin did. Then you say Dunlap is being too heavy handed. You may be right but without knowledge of the facts, it's rather abrupt to jump to a conclusion. I agree Godwin has been a good guy over the past 4 years but who knows what happened. Maybe he failed a test.
SLb - I had high hopes that we would see an aggressive press this year. But from what I have seen of the players they don't have the physical ability to press. They have length but almost no speed and not all that much aptitude to know where to be on the court at any given time. Part of that is coaching but a lot of it is instinct, and I've seen very little of that . Dunlap said he wanted an aggressive, pressing defense but he didn't seem to bring in the kind of players who could actualy implement that approach. I find that curious

I think SLB has hit on something. I think Matt needs to slide over to the 2 when Evan is not there. This way the team has a consistent shooter occupying that spot. Krajovic needs to play more at the 1. I didn't see last nights game but Krajovic seems to penetrate and dish more than any other guard.
We also need to remember that the vast majority of this team is new to Division 1 basketball, Herman and Siame are both freshman, irrespective of their ages, and Siame hasn't played for two years. And, the team has faced some pretty good competition - three Pac 12 teams, a veteran 22 win Boise State team and defending Big West Champ Irvine with a 7'6" center. And, in Hawaii the team will face more of the same. Ultimately, I agree with Dunlap's reported comment. So long as the morale stays up, facing this tough competition and getting better will help and should be very helpful in the conference. Absent Gonzaga, the caliber of most of the teams they faced in the non-conference phase of the schedule is better than what they'll face on most conference nights.
Interestingly, LMU and SMC have played three common opponents: Boise State, NAU & UCI. Boise State beat LMU by 8 on the road; beat SMC on the road by 11. UCI lost by 3 at the buzzer in Moraga and beat LMU by 8 late. NAU recently beat SMC by 2 in Moraga and LMU by 2 at home. While common opponent analysis isn't full proof by any means, this suggests that difference between LMU and SMC is less than common perception. It will be interesting to see how it works out. In any event, it is a basis for some holiday optimism.

I was very encouraged by last night's game - it was arguably our best outing this season. Scoring was more or less balanced and Siame looked good inside. Herman still appears gun shy which I don't get because he can shoot from the 15 foot mark and has the size and bulk to score inside. Right now he is playing too soft.
I agree with longtime that Matt is looking more like a 2 than a 1 but does lack some size. His athleticism and shooting may make up for this - Johnny Dee is about his size.
Regarding Godwin, I have only respect for his work ethic and contributions. It is hard to imagine why he was not at the game. But, the future rests with Siame and Herman inside and they did get good experience. I am now considering this year as a rebuilding year and this fits the mold and perhaps Dunlap's also.
Aloha!
BYU plays Stanford this weekend in Palo Alto. While BYU has some key players injured, it may be interesting to see how they fare relative to the Lions.
