We would have been so much better with Coach Good and staff. We would have two freshman still here 1 of which is starting in the Pac 12 and the other in the big east. Gabe would still be here. Dunlap is a joke. We got a coach that got fired from his last job and could not find another job until the A.D. saved him. Poor poor desicion. My prediction is we continue to get marginal recruits and Evan is gone next year. Nobody wants to play for the little general.

Highs: Marin Mornar Patson Siame
Lows: Deji disappeared - he left his game in Hawaii Our transition defense Even was ok Played with no heart! How the f are we going to win any games if we only shoot 6 threes and especially if we make 0 of those 6!!! figure it out CMD - we need more drive and kicks to outside shooters
Our program is in the rebuild stage, and right now the house we are rebuilding is a pile of rubble. It's tough right now but i still believe in what we are building, but damn it sucks right now especially a rivalry game

First game I've gotten to see in person since UC Irvine, and its safe to say we've regressed.
Coach DONElap has successfully broken Evan so that he is no longer aggressive, slashing or punishing towards the basket. Our guys have no idea where to stand on defense. How does a 2-3 zone get destroyed in the middle? On offense we pass the ball around but never towards an open look as evidenced by our putrid offense and low assist totals. Guys are throwing the ball out of bounds, nobody is looking for the ball.
DONElap and his staff have not developed Simon, Patson, Humphries, and for some reason he continues to play Herman who I was watching very closely today. The guy cannot elevate. He was literally swiping at balls from 5 feet away instead of jumping for rebounds. The guy in my section was mentioning how every time he catches the ball he stops slows down and never tries to go straight up. This guy needs to redshirt. The only guy who is trying and playing with effort is Mornar and he struggles to get touches and minutes.
Finally, after your 2-3 zone defense is getting roasted, how about you adjust or something? Coach DONElap just standing there adjusting his tie.
Husak sure knows how to pick them.
Look I couldnt deal with Good and his 0 Xs and Os, and his constant screaming on the bench and alienation of the referees etc, but the team wasn't as bad as it is now. It's like DONElap said he wanted to literally tear everything good about the program as well as the bad.

Almost whenever you transition a coaching staff, it's going to take 2-3 years for the new staff to establish what they can really do. I agree that if Good had been retained, this year's team would've looked a lot different and probably quite a bit better (Cartwright, Payne, Stewart, Levin, Siame - with Okonji, Mornar, Blackwell and Stover coming off the bench. At this point we have little choice but to suffer through this year (and probably another year or two) before we can truly judge Dunlap's tenure.
That being said, I am disappointed in two significant areas: 1) Dunlap's recruits have been distinctly unimpressive; and 2) I'm having a hard time finding evidence that Dunlap's coaching prowess has made the team better versus what Good's coaching skills brought to the team.
As I said in an earlier post, this is going to be a long year. I just hope it's not a long several years.

Initial impression concerning tonight's game experience. The young lady rendering our national anthem apparently could't find a short dress to wear for her appearance; the one she selected came down to below her hips.
As to the game itself. Some of the same old bug-a-boo's. Too many turnovers, allowed the Waves too many 3's, struggled shooting. Even Evan had what for him was a marginal game. Started off flat, too much holding the ball on the parameter but worked out of it. Good penetration later part of 1st half with strong close out play by Siame and despite Deji and Godwin regressing offensively.
Then came the 2nd half and we came out flatter than Kansas. Whatever was said in the locker room didn't work. Only bright spot - the coach decided to play Monar who responded with 11 2nd half points and 2 or 3 blocks. Pepperdine's roughly 20 - 7 point run at the start of the 2nd half proved deadly and rendering our commendable good hustling efforts trying to catch up for not. Don't think we scored a single 3 point shot all game (again) while they must have made 6 or 7.
Have to think about the next game later. Looking ahead right now I'm still Pissed about it being scheduled during the Rose Bowl, guess the Super Bowl time slot was taken.

This game revealed a lot of big issues. The transitional D is laughable. All the new recruits really lack foot speed. I don't know how many time the Waves flew by for a lay up drill. Dunlap got out coached - the double teaming of Davis was useless- he would simply make the open pass and waves would get easy layup or jumper-
The players also look miserable and are playing with no passion. I' wouldn't be suprised if Evan and Patson transfer.

Winter - pass the ice please, I'm putting it aside for now. I thought the cool aid was cherry but it turned out to be lemon.

I find it disappointing when I attend games, and our own fans are getting on players for screwing up. This season is a rebuilding one and we need to accept and support that. Dunlap and staff will do a great job of turning around this program into true wcc and tournament contenders. Those who are ripping on the staff and players are not true fans, but when the lions are on top, they will act like they were with them the whole time. I get there is frustration and you are tired of losing but come on, Coach good doesn't know the X's and O's like Dunlap. Dunlap is building sturdy program instead of just chasing wins like previous coaches. So let's support the team through these tough times and GO LIONS!!!

well Lionnation1 "good on ya"........ pretty easy to pick on players and coaches after just a few games, not real good for the players to read all these negative comments about how slow-bad-cant shoot-no offence-no-defence etc-etc.....they would feel bad enough as it is, "give em a go" if you havnt got any thing good to say or show a bit of encouragement dont watch them play

Most of the fans on this board have hard been on here for years and are hard core who have stuck by the lions through thick and thin... When newbies come on the board and direct us what to do and how to act I can guarantee it will fall on deaf ears.

Long-term, hiring Dunlap was a great move. Would we have been better on the court this year with Good's returning and newly-signed players? Probably. However, I do feel like this is the definition of "take-one-step-back-before-taking-two-steps-forward". Let's remember, we were in last place the last two years WITH Anthony Ireland.
On Monday, we played very poorly. We will have ups and downs. Dunlap clearly needs to hit on 2 of his 3 incoming recruits for next year. If he does that, with Haney too, the program will begin to improve.
Let's win today and gain some positive momentum.
Go Lions!
