Interesting that we are getting views from those who don't post regularly (like Payne hogging the ball) but it's nice to hear the views of the "silent" majority for a change.
Thanks for chipping in you newbies!

I rarely post here and usually get my head chopped off when I do. But "Waterboy" is beyond ridiculous. I watched Payne four times and he can play; damn we could use him in Moraga. He'd start any place in the WCC (except in Spokane). Ain't it great watching a coach throw his players under the bus?

Iron, if your wearing rascist glasses I guess one could see it that way. I don't. But all this snarkiness is troubling. Here are the facts. Dunlaps here to stay for a long time. Even Payne is gone of his own volition. Siame and a couple of others were asked to leave for various reasons, all of it in their control and they blew it. Our team was horrible this year. I appreciate Dunlaps honesty about that and I think the team will too, and will hopefully step it up. They are men after all, not little girls.
On the other hand, I saw a vastly improved offensive set. That offensive set got guys open all the time, but the guys could not make the shot. Our guys simply missed shot after shot because they are not good players! (and I'll add a "yet"). That was reflected in a multitude of 20-25% shooting nights all year long. You can't get many wins at that percentage. I also saw a potentially great trapping defense for the first time in years. But we were/are slow!! You can't coach speed ! And once the team knew they could run out of the trap, that ended that defenses' effectiveness.
Bottom line guys we have slots to fill. Its an opportunity. I like at least 2 of the new recruits and I am awaiting to see who else. This is where an honest evaluation of Dunlap and our program can begin. We are all weary of losing. Its been years. We know what a great place LMU is and we all want our teams to reflect that greatness. We have to come together on this. Not that this has any influence on what I am writing, but recruits read these blogs. So we either choose to help, or we hurt. We can be truthful and observant, and even critical without becoming juvenile.

I'm very passionate about the education both spiritual and academic that I received there. No level of recruit, no Larry Bird, Kevin Love level recruit will make me change my mind. Today is a terrible day for LMU athletics and reveals disturbing elements of the basketball program. In fact, if we have these things happening, we do not deserve a winning team. Plain and simple. I'd rather have the program shut down than deal with what I'm reading.

In my youth - L.A. in the late 80s and early 90s - jungle ball referred to crazy playground type play as opposed to organized team play and agnostic of race (we were all types). I'm not saying that's how water meant it, just saying I did not take objection to it and that there might be another angle.

I had same experience with term jungle ball as texascat explained above. Elementary and junior high was diverse but we used that term for lax bball rules when fooling around playing after school.

Sorry but I'm afraid it is pretty much what it looks like; which is a dumb remark in any context. Recommend we turn the page so we can get back to carping about Dunlap.

Thank You Texascat and lionking. I find its the racisit who always bring up racism in otherwise neutral situations. Sick people. And thanks for confirming your stupidity on your "knowledge" of what racism is, how it is identified and what it actually entails. I really hope you are part of an older generation that was either poorly taught or ignorant of the issues, then I will feel sorry for you. Let me guess, you have black friends so you're not racist? It's not like this is the first time anyone called you on it. But seriously, I am for the freedom of beliefs, so if you want the team to be full of skilled white guys that is your prerogative. It is your constitutional right to want that. My concern does not lay in some poster who prefers skilled white guys on our team. I actually find it humorous when people like Dan Patrick point out the cliches on his morning radio show when he asks people to identify NFL combine prospects by the scouting report cliches like "skilled", or "possession receiver" or "knows how to run routes". There are people who can see above those things you can joke about it. I admit that I great a great chuckle on those segments. Or when you go on Deadspin and how they had an article on DraftExpress where they compared college players to their NBA comparison and its always a white guy to a white guy or Euro to a Euro, etc. There are enough educated people in the world now, that we can together make fun of people who make lazy or ignorant stereotypes because we know better. My concern is how it does apply to Dunlap and to the program. Especially when you consider that Dunlap will get a full 5 years or longer to finish what he started, the same opportunity that has not been given to others with the same or worse results so far as others that did not receive the same opportunity to fail. Props to those of you here who can read between the lines. I hope that Dunlap can see through all of this, and recruits legitimately, fairly and equally. Those are the things I want to hear and see. Likewises, I want to see the AD to manage his program fairly and legitimately and equally. Those are issues that I have had a feeling about (and heard above) and where there's smoke there's fire so it is concerning. Hopefully these things get cleared up soon, but we'd like to hear them from someone in authority.

For what its worth, I don't think waterboy or ironlion are racist. Both are knowledgable basketball fans whose comments are valuable inputs.
SLB - I thought we were "moving on" so please no more name calling or personal insults to others on the board. Its no fun to read.

Just so critical remarks about a coaches effectiveness, or lack thereof, remain fair game; afterall, when we buy season tickets or contribute to the Lion's Fund we don't swear a loyalty oath to praise and exalt the coach. He is paid enough so he can handle well deserved criticisms. Dunlap with his recent interviews has done more to scare off potential recruits than a post on this forum could ever do. I doubt he will receive a personality transplant any time soon, or a lobotomy, so the best things he can do is to find a sincere smile, come up with some good recruits, show them respect, then go out an prove you can coach Division I basketball and oh yeah, win some games. If he does that I promise I will get off his back and toast him with cool aid.

LIONS90045- You use the term "knowledgeable" very loosely when it comes to waterboy

Its' so funny to read all these comments from people that know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the game of basketball but have all the answers. Talk bad about players but have NEVER been to a full practice to actually see what each player can do. A lot of people on here have NO IDEA what they are talking about but they just for some reason get a lot of joy from talking bad about players. And they have NEVER play high level of basketball before. And as for Dunlap.........I rest my case on what he stands for, his (My way or the highway principle) and how he treats people period!
