USF played tough. They kept Nevada well under their season average. On offense they relied on their 3s.
The Dons and Toreros look like they’re ready to challenge the Gael’s and Cougars, especially with the latter two exhibiting some real weakness this year.

USD had an impressive win over USF last night USD jumped way ahead early and the Dons never seriously challenged even though they got the lead down to single digits several times USD is for real

Well, after one weekend it’s easy to jump to conclusions, but this appears to be the breakdown:
Gonzaga and St. Mary’s are the top two teams
BYU, San Diego and USF are the next three
Portland, Pepperdine, Pacific, Santa Clara and us are in the lower half
Portland lost at USD and got blown out at home by USF Santa Clara won their home game but lost by 49 at Gonzaga Pacific won their home game but lost by 33 to Gonzaga Pepperdine and us both lost twice on the road, one of which was winnable.
I would really like to think we can finish in sixth place, should have won that game last night!! I would rather be peaking in March, but it’s a shame we aren’t 1-1 right now. Finishing lower than sixth would be really disappointing.

Pepperdine has really been bit by the injury bug this season. I think if they get everyone healthy they could be a bit better than their current record shows.

Excited for USD to play Saint Marys tomorrow, rooting for Saint Marys just to keep the hopes of getting 2 teams in the tourney alive, but should be a good opportunity to see how good USDs defense is. Also, USD gets about 90+% of their production from non-seniors, I think there will legitimately be a big 4 next year.

San Diego played the Gaels tough but lost by 7.
Santa Clara edged Portland. But the surprise of the night came from Stockton where the Tigers pulled an upset on the Cougars.

I think a win for Saint Mary's tonight will get them back in the top 25 while hopefully keeping Gonzaga in, giving the WCC two top 25 teams. Even a loss for Saint Mary's would still probably keep them in the tournament field, but they would most likely fall to the bubble. As of now it looks like we will get two teams in the tourney, BYUs loss to Pacific almost takes them out. Although if Saint Mary's loses 3 times to Gonzaga, but goes undefeated vs the rest of the league, which I think would give them a 28-5 record come selection Sunday, they would be sitting there with 0 quality wins, and I would not be surprised if they were left out. I think they need to beat Gonzaga once, and not lose to any other WCC team (maybe a loss to BYU or road loss to USD if they keep playing well would be acceptable). Either way, I will be rooting for Saint Mary's tonight as in hopes of seeing two top 25 teams from the WCC.

Also, ESPN BPI ranks our conference 13th in the country out of 32. Not bad, but we really should be top 10. They did they ranking by simply taking the average BPI of all the teams. Below are the WCC BPI rankings (BPI in parentheses):
1. Gonzaga (8) 2. Saint Marys (17) 3. BYU (53) 4. USD (136) 5. USF (160) 6. Pacific (205) 7. LMU (247) 8. Santa Clara (298) 9. Portland (309) 10. Pepperdine (310)
So as always, Big 3 are carrying us, two teams are middle of the back, two teams are mid-bottom, and bottom 3 are really bad. Seems to be the formula for the WCC.

We should have beat Pacific! That, and the Santa Clara game, are really the two games we’ve given away this season.

St Mary’s just beat the Zags in Spokane. Close game
Portland is shutting down San Diego’s offense. Only 2 Toreros have scored.

Good win for Saint Mary’s, looks like USD is picking it up. Between the tourney, NIT, and CIT, WCC has a chance to get four teams in post season play (BYU in NIT and USD in CIT)
