I think this discussion needs to focus around the Athletic Director.
Three years ago, he fires Aggers who had recruited two kids who became All Conference and had figured out augmenting recruiting with international kids was a way to make it competitive.
Aggers wasn't perfect, but at least his teams competed. And LMU had great young talent (finally) when Husak made his move.
Then he brings on Tention who simply couldn't coach. Nice man, but inept.
The common denominator in those two decisions?
Bill Husak--
Do you think it will really matter who the LMU coach is if Bill Husak (Hubris) is making the decision?

Husak's crystal ball is as clear as a blind's vision. Aggers was fired when he really deserved another year to prove himself. RT was fired during the rebuilding year...great call, Husak.
The next coach firing will occur in three years time when OJ and TD were both seniors and couldn't carry us to the tournament. I can see it coming already, it's going to happen. We are going to tank until we get rid of Husak.

RT was fired because his staff couldn't develop talent. RT was fired because he struggled making real time adjustments. I must have missed how much LMU improved this year?

And who brought him aboard? Who brought Aggers aboard? They don't get a second chance, why should Husak get a 3rd chance?

I agree that Husak should be re-examined by the administration. He has a couple of things going for him as it relates to job security. 1) He is very tight with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and President Lawton owes much of the development on the LMU campus over the past 8 years to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and 2) Other LMU sports actually have done rather well in comparison.
If you want to start a separate letter writing campaign, that may work, but I think Husak is has strong ties to all the decision makers within the administration. But that letter writing campaign would question his latest action of firing a coach that was below .333 winning percentage. If you look at the numbers, Husak is making a very easy decision.
I agree though that if Husak selects a mediocre coach....all hell will break lose with the boosters. The boosters are the loudest voice LMU has. They have the purse strings. If Husak does not name a coach within 2-3 weeks, it will be obvious that he does not have someone in his back pocket. Husak has had plenty of time to find someone during the season. I would anticipate an announcement in two weeks unless he has selected an assistant coach of a team who goes far in the NCAA tournament.

I never got why Aggers was fired when, at least to me, he was doing an adequate job. Was there something behind the scenes that I was missing?
As for Husak, I don't think anyone is questioning his decision to get rid of RT. It had to be done at this time.
I also think everyone (that includes Father Lawton, the Board of Trustees, etc.) realized that Husak better get this hire right or he is done. I wouldn't be surprised if that was not explained to him in explicit terms.
Despite any success with other athletic teams, the men's basketball program is the marquee team for the University. Every single one of us is embarrassed with the on-court product this year and only want to see it improved.
Husak hasn't gotten it right hiring a coach (like I said, I liked Aggers and never understood what happened). Bradley was an outright disaster as was Tention. This is his last chance to get it right.

I also believe that Aggers was let go too early. He is an excellent X and 0's coach and a great recruiter. He subsitution patters and relating to the players wasn't too great though. I think Husack better get it right this time. I'm starting to wonder if there isn't someone that is in place. Husack looks pretty silly giving quotes to the LA times about Tention as a good "fit" and the cutting him lose. Perhaps we will finally get the caliber of coach that will led our program out of the WCC ditches.
Go Lions

To think of it. The new gersten addition is still just a figment of Husak's imagination. I recall that the drawing was up on the site back in 2005 (maybe earlier), how long does it take to fundraise a $15M building? It's not even the brand new arena we had envisioned, it's an add-on. Athletics is one of the easiest area to ask for donation, how could it take so long? Husak, you are not only a poor decision maker but an inadequate fundraiser as well.

Come on, 5 years was plenty to establish a program.

DAAYYYMMMM!!!! that looks pretty sweet! They would definitely have to get it done in less than a year, if we want to have some home games!

The pics up there of the athletic center won't affect Gersten. It is just a wrap around add-on haha. Still, it would do a lot to enhance our offices and locker rooms and recruiting ability for coaches and players imo.
