Thanks head lion and ironlions. Looks like the coaching staff did a great job. I always find it a little difficult to find info on lady hoops. Here is a forum discussion about the players that I found interesting about the West Coast Elite Invitational. Poster: first2no 5-22-2007There were several that I'll have in my recap tonight. The kid going to LMU from the EastBay Xplosion, Alex Cowling I think her name is, played great and against top shelf competition. She looked like a player that should be going to Cal or another Pac-10 school. Alex Cowling is a tremendous basketball player. She is about 5"10 solid build and very skilled. She has very good handles and she is superior at getting to the basket and finishing with either hand. She runs the floor and has a nice feel for the game. Her three point shot is not bad and she plays solid defense. I watched her agains BWSL and Cal Swish and she played hard and was very productive both games. I thought she was one of the top 5 players in that tournament. I won't talk about the games yet as it looks like Chris is going to have a story up shortly. I will have more comments about the tournament after Chris post his story. There were some great games with some great performances by players on several teams. Poster: lion4life 5-22-2007Not only did alex cowling verbal to LMU but two girls from Swish Black #1 will join alex in 08...Monica DeAngelis who plays the point and Mikah Karros f/c gave a verbal this spring. All three were all state selections this year, and will impact the program significantly. www.hoopgurlz.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-155.html

Women's season semi-starts before the men's game at 5pm against Team Concept. What the hell is team concept?

Why no love from the LA Times in the special basketball section this week? UCLA and USC women get write ups and the WCC conference get press for men but nothing about LMU women or the WCC girls. Last time I checked LMU was still at 1 LMU drive in Los Angeles.

lion4life I was extremely disappointed in the LA Times coverage this year. I realize the paper is a "national news" org but the lack of WCC/LA related news in their preview section is low. Anyway, welcome lion4life , are you the same lion4life from hoopgurlz? The WCC "preview" is nothing more than an outdated article on coaching changes in the conference, the scouting report is something a 5th grader could have thrown together (they say Ziri and Deric are our key returners, really in-depth stuff) and there is a glaring lack of women's coverage. The DBreeze should pick up the ball but it would be nice for the city paper to make more than a passing reference. LMU and even Pepperdine will be fielding strong teams and the lions will be in the hunt for a conference championship so there is news to talk about. I hope that the article is just delayed. I sent Miss Norwood a note too. robyn.norwood@latimes.com no response yet.

Wow! I was following the W. b'ball game against UNLV on gametracker, if I interpret the flash animation correctly (not an easy thing to do), I think our ladies might have just won the game with a last second layup by Cassey (sp?). If that's true, what a way to finish the game! Go Lions!

I went to the women's game vs. UCSB. I walk in and LMU is down by 14. We storm back and are up 10, but end up losing. There is no way we should have lost that game. We got out coached big time. Talent wise, we were way better and their best player was in foul trouble for a majority of the second half. I was fun watching Decoud shread their D fense. Jessica V had 17 points but 7 turn overs!!!! We have to learn to finish games. Go Lions

I just had to hang my head in disbelief when I read the release. It hurts to drop a big game like that at home when we had it "in the bag." Doesn't help that the coaches are tinkering with a new system and that our leading scorer Cassidy Moore is out with a sprained ACL. Hopefully Moore will be back soon. Good Vargas is knocking the shots down. Is this her first year playing? DeCoud is legit. Closing out was our weakness against UNLV (but we pulled out with a buzzer beater) and Boise State. SCU flattened Boise a week later. Gonzaga looks very good so far this season. We'll need to be on top of our game to knock them off and of course sweep the rips up north

The women have been on a little tear recently. I decided to drop by the Cal Poly game today and I was in for a treat. The lions ended up cruising to a 80-64 victory and the game was actually not that close. Good intensity from the lions and just an excellent team effort. Keep it up ladies. DeCoud and freshman Renahy Young were superstars. Renahy scored her second 23 point game, wow! They really looked good.

Another great game by the ladies. They are really learning this new up tempo system. Had a few bumps early on the season but have won 3 straight. Came from behind at the half- was cruising to a blowout win but UCI came back within one but just couldn't hang with the lions whom refused to collapse. lmulions.cstv.com/sports/w-baskbl/recaps/121507aaa.html
