With our new coach in place we should be hearing more news of transfers in and out in the coming weeks.
Right now confirmed in the transfer portal outgoing are: Mattius Markusson- he's getting interest from multiple P5 schools and SDSU. S.S. Jawara- has entered portal
Incoming: too early to say, but imagine there will be some movement in today's modern CBB world.
Others of interest: Tahj Eaddy- Santa Clara has entered the portal Cam Allen- remember him? well looks like he's on the move again leaving Bakersfield.

Several players left Portland including the coach's son Malcolm Porter but it may be that Porter is not done yet with the Pilots. Last year or so, Porter's other son left Portland and wound up "nowhere" per tweets on the Portland board. Not fond of players playing for their dads. You always wonder about bias.

Way to early to speculate and to try and figure out how is actually transferring and who we are attracting interest in is nearly impossible to navigate. But here are three names I'll throw out there.
Bryce Aiken- Harvard PG, being recruited by bigger names but Johnson was already leaning on him to come to Marquette. Would solve our PG problem for next year.
Jonah Antonio- UNLV SG, can actually shoot the three which we havent had anyone do that very well for what 30 years.
Elias Valtonen- Ariz. St. SG, Finnish native and former 4 star recruit would give us size in backcourt. (6-7). He didn't get much playing time and suffered from some injuries in Tempe but the talent is there.

Does anyone know if there are any changes in the Redshirt rules for undergrads who transfer - like can they play right away or must they sit out a year?

They have been talking about making all transfers immediately eligible. The NCAA has not passed it, however. As of now they still have to request hardship unless they are grad transfers who immediately become eligible. The whole transfer thing is getting more and more out of hand every year in my opinion.

Based on all I’m hearing about Coach Johnson, I feel comfortable that he can keep our best guys on the roster for next season. Maybe Markusson too but Mattais might just want to try a new venue in a higher profile league. The danger there is he might not really gets the minutes he expects on the court, while he would if he stays here.

Right after I posted my comment, I see Jordan Bell is now on the transfer list.

What is the timeline for transfers and recruiting? How long from now will we have any real idea on who could be brought in next season?

Good question. I expect soon but that could be weeks or longer. I'm wondering if any Marquette recruits would prefer to follow Coach Johnson to LMU? They are high-level guys but would need their release from Marquette to play next year. In another thread, a Milwaukee type says Coach Johnson is pretty good at bringing in talent from Jcs, who are immediately eligible.

The only guys I’d fight to keep are Scott, Douglass and Markussen. But for the two seniors I wouldn’t take it personal. It’s still a rebuild. There is a lot of talent still floating around and essentially the whole thing froze with this virus. Basketball juuust ended.
So have colleges. They might extend deadlines. He can still find some recruits. Of course, who knows how anxious he is to land here at the moment.

I agree with slblions08 Scott, Douglas and Markussen are the players you want to keep. Outside of that, there can be a lot of turnover.

Tahj Eaddy from Santa Clara is going to USC. Think that might be too big a step up for him.
Jordan Bell has entered the transfer portal. I am assuming he would be a grad transfer. Correct me if I am wrong.

Looks like Porter is staying at U of P. Feel badly for their fans as they have suffered almost as much as our fanbase. 1-31 in the league last two years. Also they say they couldn't afford the buyout. Let's hope they land on the schedule twice next year.
