So assuming Markusson leaves, we will officially be moving forward with a 6'6" and under lineup...

So assuming Markusson leaves, we will officially be moving forward with a 6'6" and under lineup... The transfer portal will be more talented and bigger than ever. I doubt we dont get a big man before all is said and done. Also, its worked out fine for Houston who relies on athletic dudes 6'5-6'8

Let's gooooooooo. Can only be impressed with his commitment and determination to improve his craft and represent LMU. So pumped for Lions basketball next year. Eli is gonna go down as one of the all time Lion greats. Especially if he achieves his goal of bringing us back to the NCAA tournament.

Coach Johnson is wise. Despite the talented incoming Freshmen coming in, Coach Johnson has the freedom to develop them slowly until they have adapted to D1 ball. He now has experienced guards who can carry the ball early in the season anyway. Of course, the new guys might be good enough to step into a prime role immediately, but even the best seem to need a year to mature to the new level of competition. Joe Q comes to mind as he had a mediocre first year compared to his abilities as an upper classman. And the new PG Shelton looks like a starter with Anderson maturing and not having the pressure he had in year 1 due to necessity. I wouldn't mind being proven wrong on that assertion.
And now to clarify Mattias' situation. I would not put it past Coach Johnson to convince him to return for a final year and enjoy a near-normal situation on campus and in Gersten.

The high school bball season just got going and games I think are in mid/late April. Our Freshmen class is talented but like all of our high school kids, probably a little off, trying to adjust to a more normal situation. The less pressure on them to be impact right away, the better. They need to adjust to college with their academics too.
Let Noble, Elliot and Lewis marinate on the bench a little bit. They’ll need to get up to speed.
I’m pretty sure Shelton and Eli became a package deals so obviously that helped. I’m seeing a roster crunch even with a Covid scholarship exception so I wonder who the odd person out is? Is it Mayoum? Is Quintana graduating?

sub - no one needs to depart to make our roster legal. With Shelton and Marble we have 13 scholarship players. You are right if we signed a new "big" - then someone would have to go.

Johnson defintely operates with a plan. I am sure it's no coincidence that on the same day that Eli announced he is coming back that the two transfers announced they are coming. The same thing happened when our incoming freshman recruits all committed on the same day (or a day apart). The result in both cases - media buzz around the program. Good smart strategy. How many days til the season starts?
